Biographical Information

What is the most important issue facing your Single Member District (SMD) and how do you intend to address it?

How will you engage with residents to be an effective Commissioner, especially reaching those who are unfamiliar with the role and value of ANCs?

Qualifications I am currently serving as Commissioner in ANC3A05 and was previously Commissioner in ANC 3B until ANC boundaries changed in the District's 2022 Redistricting. I have been a resident on my block for several decades, as it shifted from ANC 3C to ANC 3B to ANC 3A. As a Commissioner, I have been working to help ANC 3A be an effective Advisory Neighborhood Commission for our area. I have been committed to developing sound operating procedures and ensuring the ANC maintains open civil dialogue, shares information with constituents, builds relationships with other ANCs and District agencies, welcomes all community members, carries their voices to DC officials, and advocates for the interests of the people and the District.
Residents in my SMD face most issues affecting DC as a whole--high utility bills and affordability, education, social services, quality of life and environment, public safety, relations with local and federal law enforcement, DC Home Rule and human rights and freedoms. I work on all those issues, keep up with developments, share information with the ANC and constituents, and propose solutions. For issues the ANC can affect in the short term, transportation safety and services are #1. I will work closely on traffic safety and pedestrian and transit services, listening to concerns and needs and working with local agencies to get improvements. In the new term I will press DDOT to revamp its 311 process for Traffic Safety Investigations to address resident priorities and take effective action.
ANC 3A is still very new (just 4 years in existence) and most of the areas in ANC 3A have been part of one or even two different ANCs over the past 15 years. That means many constituents are not aware of ANC 3A and it needs to work harder to build visibility and connections around the Commission area, including with residents, apartment and condo buildings, schools, and commercial establishments. Most current ANC 3A communications are electronic, including the website and emails. ANC 3A holds all public meetings in hybrid format, which allows maximum participation, but it would be great to have more people participate in-person. I also want to develop more direct contacts through flyers, workshops, and conversations and greater use of the ANC's community engagement software and services.
