Biographical Information

What is the most important issue facing your Single Member District (SMD) and how do you intend to address it?

How will you engage with residents to be an effective Commissioner, especially reaching those who are unfamiliar with the role and value of ANCs?

Qualifications I am uniquely qualified to be ANC 2A03 Commissioner because I am a 30+ year resident of Foggy Bottom, have served for 6 years as president of the Foggy Bottom Association, and for the past 1.5 years have been the co-chair of the Foggy Bottom West End Main Street. I know our DC government leaders and have key agency contacts to look out for our neighborhood. I am a grass roots volunteer who works to listen to residents and improve our neighborhood.

Having been an active member of the Foggy Bottom/West End Community for over 30 years, I have seen a range of issues. I would like to raise a few, not just one. In talking with residents, I most commonly hear about issues related to trash pick-up and rats. In addition, I often hear about traffic speed and lack of adherence to traffic signs. While SMD 2A03 is primarily residential, because of its proximity to Georgetown and Downtown there are major commuting paths that cut through it. There are often close calls with pedestrians and sadly a pedestrian death in our ANC. To address these issues, it will take a coordinated response. I regularly contact DPW, DOH, and DDOT to discuss ways to make a positive impact. I met with DDOT last week on this. More education is needed as well.
As ANC Commissioner I want to create more transparency and promote more community involvement. As an established community leader, people know me and reach out to me. I want to broaden participation in our ANC meetings by creating hybrid events so that those who can attend in person may do so and have those who are unable to attend in person attend virtually. That engagement is currently lacking. I have facilitated dozens of hybrid meetings. Our ANC must broaden its outreach through social media, email, newsletters, website and other mechanisms to involve people. The more you listen, the more you understand the broader community. I plan to educate residents on what the ANC is, its origins, help them understand the context and importance of the ANC, and how it affects our neighborhood.
Qualifications I don’t see being an ANC Commissioner as a title. I see it as a responsibility to show up, speak up, and get things done. As a fourth-term Commissioner, I bring deep institutional knowledge, strong neighborhood relationships, and a record of holding DC government accountable. As an immigrant daughter, tipped hospitality worker, worker organizer, and community advocate, I bring lived experience and a commitment to making government work for residents. I believe ANCs should be consequential: listen, organize, demand accountability, and follow through until residents see results.

The biggest issue facing SMD 2A03 is simple: can people afford to stay?

Our community includes renters, seniors, students, workers, families, and small businesses—all facing rising costs, displacement, and a city government that too often makes residents fight for basic services.

As a Commissioner, I will fight for affordability in all its forms: more housing, more affordable housing, stronger renter protections, better infrastructure, and accountable city services. I believe in being consequential—not simply identifying problems, but organizing residents, pushing agencies, and delivering results.

I didn't run for office to hold a title. I ran because public service should change people's lives. Be Bold. Be Consequential. Be Empowering.
I believe an effective Commissioner meets residents where they are—not waits for them to come to an ANC meeting. Many residents do not know what ANCs do or how to use them to make government work for their community. I will continue making constituent service the foundation of my work through direct outreach, community conversations, neighborhood walks, events, and accessible communication.

My approach is simple: listen, organize, act, and report back. Whether it is a broken sidewalk, housing concern, public safety issue, sanitation problem, development proposal, or unresponsive agency, residents should know they have a Commissioner who will take them seriously and follow through. An ANC should not be an insider’s club—it should be a front door to local government.
