What is the most important issue facing your Single Member District (SMD) and how do you intend to address it?

How will you engage with residents to be an effective Commissioner, especially reaching those who are unfamiliar with the role and value of ANCs?

My highest priority will be how we use shared space in 1C05, such as the building on Ontario Rd that has been vacant for over a decade, the field at Walter Pierce that is locked by default, or vacant storefronts along 18th and Columbia.

As Commissioner, I will work with the City to use the Vacant to Vibrant Act to put new pressure on vacant landowners towards productive use. For Walter Pierce, I will talk to DPR to determine what issues led to the field being locked between permitted uses and resolve them with the community. I see the key role of a Commissioner as connecting residents' voices to the City, and prodding the City into action when 1C05's issues fall by the wayside.
There are many different people residing in 1C05, and I plan to reach them where they are: tabling/canvassing at busy junctions (Walter Pierce Park, the intersection of 18th and Columbia, or along Adams Mill Rd), monitoring local 311 requests, local civic organizations (tenant groups, housing coops, the KCA, the BID, etc.), email listservs, local social media groups (FB groups, Nextdoor, etc.), and the social networks of neighbors who do know of the ANC's work.

The best way to demonstrate the value of the ANC to residents who aren't familiar with it is to deliver for them on the issues that matter. Communicating the work being done and its results in all of these places will connect more residents with ANC 1C.
