Biographical Information

What is the most important issue facing your Single Member District (SMD) and how do you intend to address it?

How will you engage with residents to be an effective Commissioner, especially reaching those who are unfamiliar with the role and value of ANCs?

Qualifications As one of the principal organizers of our neighborhood block party over the past few years, I have worked with my neighbors to build lines of communication to ensure that our community’s needs are met, questions are answered, and connections can be made. This network has allowed us to solve many of the problems that have arisen in recent years, as well as find new ways to connect and improve the neighborhood and the city. I hope to bring these same goals to bear as your ANC.
I am working first and foremost to increase the responsiveness of city services. I have spent my initial months in my role as ANC reaching out to District officials to make connections and figure out the best way to connect for the betterment of the community. Whether it is cleanup of local parks, trash pickup, or the replacement of street signs and other infrastructure, we should expect a quicker response. Many of these issues are easy fixes, but delays seem to be an unfortunate, permanent trend.

I have spent much of my initial months in office focused on outreach, both through the community forums that we have developed over the past few years as well as old-fashioned door-to-door distribution of my contact information and information about the ANC in general. I have also worked closely with my predecessor to identify key issues and contacts to ensure that ongoing constituent services don’t go by the wayside, and that the most pressing issues facing my SMD are on my radar. However, the decisions that I make will not only be based upon the feedback and conversations I have with my constituents, but on my best judgement on the needs of Columbia Heights and the District, the information and feedback I receive from my colleagues and city officials, and my own conscience.
