Biographical Information
What is the most important issue facing your Single Member District (SMD) and how do you intend to address it?
How will you engage with residents to be an effective Commissioner, especially reaching those who are unfamiliar with the role and value of ANCs?
QualificationsI’m a first-time ANC candidate who has lived in 1A03 since 2019. I have 5 years of previous experience in graduate student government, including 6 months on the Executive Steering Committee.

I feel the biggest issue in my neighborhood is the number of vacant buildings, especially the storefronts on Irving Street, including the old Lou's, the old Wawa, the old Five Below, and the old CVS. I want new businesses in there, preferably shops or restaurants. We also have a condemned building I'd like to get torn down and replaced and a rarely-used parking lot that I would like to see be better used. As commissioner, I would work with property owners, residents, businesses, and DC agencies to figure out what is keeping these properties vacant and what we can realistically do about it. I would also support using the tools DC already has and exploring additional ways to encourage owners to put these properties back into productive use.
Most people don't spend much time thinking about their ANC, and I don't expect them to. I want to make it easy for residents to know who I am, how to contact me, what issues are coming before the ANC, and how the ANC can actually help them. I'll be accessible by email and other means, communicate regularly about issues affecting the neighborhood, and make an effort to reach people who don't normally participate in ANC meetings. I'd also like to put up flyers around the district every once in a while explaining what the ANC is, how residents can contact me, and how they can get involved in the neighborhood. I'll listen to anyone who wants to talk to me, but I also won't assume that the people who show up to meetings or contact me represent everyone in the neighborhood.
