My name is Susan Richards and I am running for Township Trustee in Washington Township in Allen County. I am the current Township Trustee. It is my first term as a Township Trustee and I have fourteen years of experience as a Township Clerk. I feel I have the experience to lead Washington Township into a better future, and I took the task of cutting wasteful spending without cutting compassion towards our constituents when I took office in 2023. . I have ideas for the future with more community outreach and activities within the township. I have brought the township current with a regularly updated facebook page and a website. I love my job!
Township Assistance is very important to me. Constituents who come into our office are experiencing a very stressful point in their lives and we help them the best way we can with our guidelines and taxpayer dollars with dignity and respect. As I have mentioned, Township Government is closest to the people and Township Trustees are the frontline in aiding those who are experiencing financial distress.
Also being a good community partner with social service organizations, public safety, local athletics, and most importantly, the taxpayer. I do not work for the federal government or local governments, I work for you, the taxpayer.
Funding and legislation are two big issues with Township Government. Tax cuts affect the funding that Townships use to help someone who is experiencing a housing, utility, or burial issue. We have to be very conscious of every dollar we have to spend, and that is why partnerships with local social service agencies and local officials is so importnat.

I am running for Township Trustee because I feel that our township deserves better. We deserve a Trustee that is avaliable when working people can meet, we deserve board meetings that are open to the public, and we deserve a community center that is not in disrepair and is affordable for our community.
The responsibilities that are most important to me are giving reliving financial stress for those in our community who most need it though township aid. Along with preforming and planning community building events like township cook outs or charitable events for those most in need in our community.
The challenge that I see most is navigating the financial situation of the township in order to make my goals possible. One of the ways I want to do this is by cutting the trustees salary the minute that I can from 37,000 to 20,000 dollars a year so then I can re invest that 17,000 back into the community. Along with going through all of the township finances and making cuts where needed.
