Monroe Township Board Member {_getChooseLabel(this.selections.length)}

Voters of each township elect three members to the township board for 4-year terms. The township board has the same responsibilities within the township as those exercised by the county council. Those duties include adopting the annual township budget, fixing the tax rate for various funds, fixing the salaries of elected and appointed officers and employees of the township, excluding constables, township assessors and employees of county assessors. The board must keep a record of its proceedings.

I am running for the Monroe Township Board to give back to a community that has supported my family for 20 years. Monroe Township is one of my family’s cornerstones. It sustained us after a devastating house fire and provided an educational support system that enabled my children to attain academic scholarships to college. I am compelled to serve and give back by helping approve local budgets to help sustain our safe and friendly community and making sure our emergency poor relief fund is available to help those in dire financial straits.
In the short term, Senate Enrolled Act 1 (SB1) is resulting in property tax savings for homeowners and tax exemptions for businesses. There is concern this could lead to less money for services and higher income taxes to offset the property tax loss. Since possible changes to local income taxes are now delayed until 2029, it is difficult to gauge at this juncture the long term impact until a decision is made on local income taxes. As a board member I will work with fellow members and the trustee to monitor conditions and develop strategies to offset any adverse financial impacts.
