The Frenchtown Elementary School District serves public school students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. The district prepares its students to meet the challenges of rapid globalization where, in an increasingly diverse world, they will need a solid foundation in technological skills, the versatility to design their own multi-career futures, and a greater appreciation for and acceptance of cultural diversity.The members of the Frenchtown Borough Board of Education work as a Board of the Whole , rather than working in committees. Members are elected by the Frenchtown community and serve staggered three-year terms. The Board establishes policies, approve personnel, adopt budgets, approve curriculum, award bids and make final decisions on educational issues. Meetings are open to the public except when matters of confidentially are discussed, in conformance with the NJ Open Public Meetings Act
What motivates you to run for the School Board? What leadership characteristics, personal qualities and professional experience do you have that make you an ideal candidate for this position?
What overall education priority(ies) do you want to accomplish during your time on the School Board? Why should they receive priority?
Given the budgetary constraints, what areas would you focus on to achieve cost savings without adversely impacting instructional goals, mandated programs, and teacher/staff quality?

I look forward to continuing my engagement on the school board, which I have served on since 2021. I excel in focusing on collaboration and transparency, and I draw on my training as a therapist to help clarify, illicit, and engage fellow board members as well as staff and community members. I also have a 7th grader currently attending the school.
Management of appropriate use of technology in the classrooms is a big concern for families in our our district. At this time in our world, and particularly New Jersey, we have the opportunity to reset our perspective and policy around research and evidence-based feedback on what is the healthiest balance for our children.
We are fortunate in Frenchtown to have a history of the school responsibility with the support of a phenomenal CSA and Business administrator. They are always presenting new and creative ways to manage budget and minimize tax burden. Continued management and oversight of this is a goal, as we strive to continue to provide programs that are beneficial to the students, but are also mindful of the cost of these services. Partnering with local community members and organizations has also helped us to defray costs.
As a therapist, I see the daily impact of how social media and technology use in general can negatively impact student self-esteem and overall knowledge. While we are able to limit the technology use in classrooms, we have also relied on psychoeducation from our school counselor at appropriate levels for each grade. As a board, we can definitely provide more education to parents and families to be able to manage social media and technology usage outside the classroom.
