The East Windsor Regional School District Board of Education covers East Windsor and Hightstown. It sets and evaluates education policy, establishes goals, sees that the district is moving forward responsibly and adopts a fiscally sound operating budget for the school district. The Board is comprised of nine members, each serving three year terms. Seven members are East Windsor residents, voted on by East Windsor voters, and two members are Hightstown residents, voted on by Hightstown voters. All members of the Board of Education volunteer their time and are not offered compensation.
Our district continues to navigate the challenge of delivering modern, effective instruction across a diverse student population. Ensuring that our administration is responsive to the different academic, social, and developmental needs of our students is critical to improving both their educational experience and their outcomes.
My priorities are to continue advocating for programs, initiatives, and budgets that support thoughtful use of technology, effective modern teaching practices, and strong student support systems. I plan to advance those priorities through careful review of district data, collaboration with administration and fellow Board members, and by supporting investments that prepare students for graduation, further education, careers, and life beyond our schools.
We have continually improved and expanded our fine arts programs across the district, and it is my intention to continue supporting that progress. We have strong participation, talented staff, and programs that provide meaningful opportunities for students, but maintaining that strength requires continued and intentional investment.
More broadly, I believe our academic and vocational offerings should continue to evolve alongside the needs and interests of our students. We should regularly evaluate opportunities to expand career and technical education, strengthen pathways that connect students to college, trades, and employment, and ensure that fine arts remain an important part of a well-rounded education.
Our district is only as strong as the people who choose to work in it, so recruiting and retaining high-quality educators and staff should remain one of our highest budget priorities. We also need to protect capital investment in our facilities, including the rehabilitation of aging buildings and the expansion of appropriate space for Pre-K.
Where reductions are necessary, I would focus first on identifying administrative efficiencies, eliminating duplicative expenses, reviewing contracts and vendor costs, and finding opportunities to consolidate services without reducing the quality of instruction or student support. The goal should be to direct as much of our available funding as possible toward the people, programs, and facilities that have the greatest direct impact on students.
We serve a diverse student population, including a significant number of students who may be considered at risk for a variety of academic, economic, social, or personal reasons. The Board should continue to support programs and services that address those needs, while actively pursuing available state and federal funding to expand the resources we can provide. Our goal should be to ensure that every student has access to the support, opportunities, and learning environment they need to succeed.
I believe the Board should continue to ensure that our sex education curriculum aligns with all state-mandated standards and recommended guidance. Where appropriate, we should supplement that curriculum to address the needs of our students and community, while ensuring that instruction remains age-appropriate, accurate, and educationally sound.
Our role is to comply with all applicable laws and valid legal orders involving local, state, and federal agencies. At the same time, schools have a fundamental responsibility to provide a safe and supportive environment for every student. Our policies and procedures regarding ICE should therefore be guided by the law, appropriate consultation with district counsel, and our responsibility to protect the safety, privacy, and well-being of our learners.
