East Windsor Regional School District-East Windsor {_getChooseLabel(this.selections.length)}

The East Windsor Regional School District Board of Education sets and evaluates education policy, establishes goals, sees that the district is moving forward responsibly and adopts a fiscally sound operating budget for the school district. The Board is comprised of nine members, each generally serving three year terms. Seven members are East Windsor residents, voted on by East Windsor voters, and two members are Hightstown residents, voted on by Hightstown voters. All members of the Board of Education volunteer their time and are not offered compensation.Candidates Jeanne M. Bourjolly and Robert P. Laverty are bracketed. What are your priorities for your term on the Board of Education? How do you plan to implement these priorities?

What issues, if any, do you believe your district needs to address in its academic program and vocational and fine arts offerings? What changes would you recommend?

What components of the school budget should be protected and perhaps increased, and what components do you think could be reduced? Please explain your answer and your strategies to accomplish this.

Are there groups of at-risk students in the community and, if so, what policies or services should the Board offer them or their families?

What, if any, new policies would you like the Board to adopt towards the sex education curriculum?

What is the role of schools in addressing the impact of ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) policies in your community?

Slogan Books Not Screens
Reevaluating EdTech use in the district and rolling back the amount of screentime, especially for younger learners. Refocus district resources on literacy and critical thinking skills by putting the students and teachers at the center of learning.
Strengthening the current programs by offering more fine arts at the middle and high school. broadening the relationship with county Vo-Tech programs to reach more students. Focus on G&T and BSI identification at the lower grades to identify academic needs, to be addressed with the proper interventions and guide the creation of programs.
Shifting money from costly, ineffective tech products to infrastructure improvements throughout our aging school buildings, making them safer, cleaner and more efficient learning environments.
Continue to fund the programs in place, and look for more grant money to supplement those programs.
In NJ, the state standards are broad in their scope on the topic of sex ed, and provisions provide parents with an opt-out based on religious and other criteria. Board policy should be an enforcement of these balanced state policies.
Schools should follow the guidelines of local and state law enforcement agencies to develop policies which avoid ICE operations involving school campuses, citing previous exemptions for schools and house of worship.
