Sensible Government in High Bridge
I moved to High Bridge three years ago because of its wildlife, small-town feel, and the friendly people I met while walking around. It felt like an ideal place to raise a family, and I found a home I could afford. Taxes were a bit high, but I believed living in this great town was worth it—especially since there was little large business, so the tax rate made sense at the time.
In the past three years my taxes have risen 25%. That prompted me to look closely at the town’s finances. With my professional background in IT managing large budgets, I believe I can help identify real cost savings—through smarter contracts, sharing resources with neighboring towns, and promoting sensible growth that protects our small-town character. I’m running because I want High Bridge to remain the community that drew me here while keeping taxes under better control for the residents who live here.
Reducing the town’s debt burden. I would work to pay down principal each year and explore re-amortization options so that any savings flow directly back to residents in the form of lower tax pressure.
Controlling and reducing operating costs. This includes renegotiating contracts where possible and pursuing shared services with neighboring towns that border us.
Generating revenue in ways that do not increase the tax burden on current residents—such as targeted housing for ages 55 and older (which adds to the tax base without adding school costs) and attracting smaller, appropriate businesses.
I would also re-examine the idea of selling the water system and use any proceeds to reduce debt. At the same time, I would ensure the golf course’s financial performance is transparent and clearly communicated to residents, and I would protect it from any future sale. These steps together are aimed at minimizing—or ideally avoiding—further tax increases.
I believe large data centers should be kept out of High Bridge. They do not fit our small-town character, wildlife, or quality of life that attracted me (and many others) here. I would support firm limits that effectively prohibit or strongly discourage data-center development within the municipality. If any proposal ever came forward, I would require clear demonstration that it would not increase the tax burden on residents, would not harm local infrastructure or the environment, and would genuinely benefit the community—conditions I do not believe large data centers can realistically meet here. My preference is to focus instead on smaller, locally scaled businesses that strengthen High Bridge without changing its character.
Growth should be sensible and deliberately limited so we protect High Bridge’s small-town roots, open spaces, wildlife, and quality of life. I would favor:
Encouraging smaller businesses that fit the existing scale of the town rather than large commercial or industrial projects.
Prioritizing age-restricted (55+) residential housing. This adds to the tax base without placing additional burden on the school system.
Carefully reviewing any larger residential or mixed-use proposals to ensure they do not strain infrastructure, increase taxes, or erode the character that makes High Bridge special.
My overall plan is controlled, measured growth that strengthens the tax base and community services while keeping High Bridge the walkable, family-friendly, small-town place residents value. Large-scale commercial or data-center-style development should remain outside our borders.G

Living in High Bridge for 14 years, our local Mayor and Council Members have continually failed to represent us and failed to act in our best interests. I have grown weary of what is now a dire, management failure of the boro and our commitment (Al Schweikert, Jon Sciarrino and myself) and our steadfast dedication to open communication and representing the interests of the residents of High Bridge, prompted me to run! I am a person who takes notice of things that need attention and sees to it the issues are addressed! Al Schweikert having formerly served as Mayor of High Bridge is uniquely qualified to hit the ground running in order to tackle the many serious, outstanding issues High Bridge faces and Jon Sciarrino, like Al, also possesses expertise in finance, budgeting and management! This is the best team I have ever seen on our boro's ballot and I am so pleased to be a part of it as I know it will restore sensible government and conscientious, professional management to High Bridge, something the residents of High Bridge deserve and have not seen in well over a decade!
We are going to lower taxes by cutting unnecessary spending. We are going to correct resource mismanagement to stop the ever raising cost of water, sewer and garbage. See to it that profits from the golf course go directly to fund property tax relief.
Completely against data center development!
We will protect open space, keep parking free and re-establish the Economic Development Committee to support local businesses.
