My family has been a part of this community my entire life. I was a student in the Saddle Brook Public School System for my K-12 education. I beleive there is a great change underway in education. I think my perspective as a more recent graduate (Class of '21) is going to be useful in navigating this time. I would be honored to work alongside the rest of the school board to ensure that our community's students are assisted through this new era in education.
It is without a doubt the rising tide of artificial intelligence which will rob the average student of their creativity. I have learned in my personal and professional experience that the only way to counteract AI is through training students and investing in detection programs. I saw it as a student in Montclair State, people who are paying to obtain an education abuse AI and face little to no consequences.
More has to be done to protect students from the risk of overliance on AI. If elected I will work with my fellow board members to create a policy which enables student's creative instincts, protects academic integrity, and ensures that new technology is responsibly integrated into our education system.
As a resident and a former student I've had an average expereince with the school district. I am a firm believer that the majority of individuals with authority has the best interest of the district's residents at heart. It is all about sorting out those interests which matters and finding amendable solutions to the issues parents, teachers, students, and all residents are faced with. An important thing for me is making myself a part of that process and bringing my perspective as a former student to the table.
AI as mentioned. Also, I want to look into expanding opportunities for students to being training for the job market as a student. We have programs currently but I would like to see them expanded.
I don't view this as a stepping stone. I know of a lot of young people interested in politics who run for school board because they figure it's step one on some grand plan towards greater political power. I never liked nor respected that. I didn't want to run for office until I felt like I had something to offer.
This was not a calculated decision, I'm doing this because I love this community and I want to make my voice heard through elected office.
