I believe there is a need for another experienced member on the Edgewater Board of Education, and I am that person.
I would like to share my experience and historical knowledge, which is so important when making decisions. I have also remained up-to-date with current district topics.
I can help the Board remain flexible and forward-looking, working together as the Board carefully plans to provide the financial and educational support our staff and students need, even when those needs are difficult to predict.
Only 25 years ago Edgewater was a much smaller town. I witnessed Edgewater’s growth while on the board. We are a multicultural community with a welcoming and inclusive school culture, and also face challenges as families move in from other areas, often in search of the educational opportunities Edgewater provides. While our students’ needs have evolved and changed, I have been here to evolve as well.
I have been the board rep to Leonia, an important role which allows a partnership with Leonia and continued oversight of our students’ education.
I have served at the District, County, and State levels of NJ School Boards, and achieved Certified Board Leader, the highest level of school board member service. It has been my privilege to represent the Edgewater School District in a positive light throughout the State.
I didn’t know much about how a school district works until I became a parent, and my son started school here. I joined the PTO, learning about and becoming actively involved in the culture of a public school. My fellow volunteers and I created fundraising events to support education. I was classroom liaison, PTO treasurer and then PTO president - and I began attending board meetings. When my son continued his education at Leonia Middle & High Schools, I joined the Home & School associations, and along with a Leonia parent, created co-chairs to enhance the concept of a joint school community. To now serve on the board as a resident allows me to come full circle and bring that type of feedback to the team.
A school board member’s informal motto is “Children first.” Our campaign motto is “Past. Present. Future.” I bring to the Board my past experience, my present involvement (I still attend school board meetings), and my ability to plan well for the future, all while keeping children first and foremost.
If elected, I will work with the current board and school superintendent to keep our district moving forward in a fiscally responsible and transparent manner, while still providing strong support for our staff, and therefore fostering the best opportunities for all of our students and their varied needs.
I will provide 100% of my time and effort to the Board and this position. Those who have seen me in this role in the past know the extent of my dedication; that I am open-minded and fair; and that I know the ins and outs of being a responsible school board member, working within its strict guidelines. I will be honored and proud to again serve on the Edgewater Board of Education.
