The Ohio Township Board Member oversees the budget, the income and spending, of the Ohio Township Trustee. Moreso, the position is there to make sure the taxes that Ohio Township residents are paying will directly benefit them through opportunities for growing families (parks, etc), access to reliable and efficient help (medical, fire, and police), and to see all of our Township flourish for many years to come.
My top two priorities if I am elected are to make sure the tax dollars that come from each and every resident go back to the wellbeing of the residents and families continue to flourish as we try and keep up with the growth in our area (we are fastest growing Township south of Bloomington). Our current board has done amazing with our new park and many families have utilized the space for health and fitness on top of play and joy. I would love to see those opportunities continue to grow as well as continue to support our professional first responders continue to be their best and expand their services by fighting for the tax dollars already given to be released to expand these services.
The most important challenge is the continual growth we are seeing (once again, we are the fastest growing township in Indiana, south of Bloomington). More houses are being built to accommodate all of the families that are moving into our Township, I believe due to how amazing it has been, is, and will continue to be. This growth will not only continue the need for further expansion in all areas of our township but especially in our first responders.
My family has a long history in the area. My father was raised in Chandler and went to Castle High School, graduating when it was what is now Castle North. I grew up in South Broadview, attending Sharon Elementary (where all 3 of my daughters have attended), Castle Jr and Senior High and going on to receive my Bachelors and Masters degrees from Lincoln University. I traveled all the way to Omaha for a few years but found my way to back to Newburgh, mainly because of how great this area is, how family oriented it is, and the plain fact that I love our Township. I have grown up knowing and loving this place and I want others to do the same.
I am heavily involved in volunteering throughout the community, from the High School and Castle South Middle School Drama departments, being a Chaplain with the Ohio Township Fire Department, working at a church, and just growing up in the community are many of the ways that I have been gifted with the opportunity to interact with a major portion of our Township. My Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership also has positioned me with skills necessary to think critically with discernment to help others take the next steps they find themselves needing to take. Being the people person I am, along with being an independent candidate not tied to a specific party, I would work to bring people together for the good of our Township.
The role of an Ohio Township Board Member would not have any sway in the Data Center Developments happening, as it is a Zoning matter and overseen by the Warrick County Area Plan Commission and the Warrick County Board of Commissioners.
