I am running because I would like the opportunity to serve the community. Township Advisory Board is one of those positions that allow someone in a full time position to still serve. Lastly, I believe people deserve to have choices on their ballots.
I believe ensuring poor relief is funded and administered in an effective way is a significant function of the advisory board.
I believe the biggest issue is rising costs of bare necessities - gas, groceries, rent, medical treatment. However, I’m more interested in what the residents of Osolo Township believe are the biggest issues.
I have worked in a regulated industry for 20 years and have the capability to read, understand, and follow legal requirements. I am very conscientious about how money is spent when I’m acting as a steward of others money, which is how I view tax dollars.
Communication is important to gain public participation. A social media presence that is kept up to date is crucial to keep people engaged who are already interested in participating. I also believe a willingness to listen to public input is important. When people feel like their voice doesn’t matter, it isn’t long before they stop making an effort.
The balance between fire service improvements and tax impact is one that needs to be carefully considered. The need for improvements should be supported with facts and data, so any tax impact is justifiable. Reliance on facts and data should also carry though the approval of any contract for purchase of equipment or service.
I think the requirement for the recording of the advisory board meetings is a start. I would support sharing any information that can legally be shared about the meetings and basis for decisions.
