The greatest challenge facing many Natrona County citizens in relation to the Treasurer’s Office is navigating property taxes—understanding how taxes are calculated, managing the financial impact of those taxes, and ensuring timely compliance with payment requirements.
Rising property values in recent years have increased tax burdens for some homeowners, particularly seniors and those on fixed incomes. Recent statewide property tax relief measures have also created confusion about who qualifies for exemptions or reductions.
Many taxpayers are unclear about how their tax bill is calculated, what entities set the mill levies, and which portions of the bill the Treasurer’s Office controls versus the Assessor, County Commissioners, school districts, municipalities, and special districts.
Citizens frequently struggle with payment deadlines, escrow issues, ownership transfers, and the consequences of delinquent taxes. The Treasurer’s Office is responsible for collecting those taxes and conducting tax sales when taxes remain unpaid.
The Treasurer’s Office also handles vehicle registration and licensing. Citizens often express concerns about registration fees, required documentation, and registration renewals.
Another concern we often hear is that members of the public have experienced difficulty reaching our office at certain times.
If elected, I will work to make property tax information more accessible by improving the format of our tax bills and distributing easy-to-understand materials that explain all available exemptions and qualification requirements.
I would like to make our website more intuitive and easier to navigate, helping citizens find the information they need more efficiently with motor vehicle licensing, sales tax and property tax.
To improve responsiveness and accessibility, I plan to establish a dedicated customer service team that will focus on answering calls, assisting taxpayers and completing transactions through phone and online services, reducing wait times and improving the overall experience.
I have served in the Treasurer’s Office for 25 years, working under two different Treasurers who not only taught me the technical aspects of the job but also modeled what it means to be a leader worth following. I began my career as a property tax clerk and have since held every position in the office, including office manager, bookkeeper, supervisor, and ultimately Chief Deputy.
For the past eight years, I have been deeply involved in hiring, training, and personnel management, and I take pride in contributing to our office’s consistently low turnover rate. I have also played an active role in the development and implementation of the software systems used by the Treasurer’s Office.
My experience has given me a strong understanding of county government functions and processes. I work closely with the Assessor’s Office, the Clerk’s Office, the Department of Revenue, the Department of Transportation, and all municipalities within Natrona County to ensure accuracy, compliance, and effective service to the public.
