Funding public safety is the number one priority for a city government. This includes police and fire department. After that, infrastructure projects will be prioritized based on the overall condition of the street, water and sewer lines, and electrical infrastructure. Our PAVER software helps Development Services prioritize the projects based on the condition and need. Projects will then be determined by our estimated budget revenues. Increased costs limit the number and scope of some projects by moving them further down the list.
I would read my board packet, speak with the City Administrator and other staff as appropriate, and visit with constituents. I would also do additional research if necessary and consult with other entities, such as the Wyoming Business Council. In short, I would gather as much information as I can.
I think they have made great progress under the new leadership. I expect them to continue working with business prospects and support the businesses we already have. I would like them to continue with quarterly briefings, so City Council is aware of the work being done.
When I was elected, I swore an oath to represent the constituents of Gillette. I will remove my bias and be objective in the case of controversial issues. If the support of an issue is overwhelming, I would set my personal opinion aside and support the constituents.
