In District 2, I watch families lose homes they inherited to tax bills they cannot pay, and neighbors who cannot afford the 'affordable housing' going up on their own block. I see the fentanyl crisis taking people we love. I see violence that community programs alone cannot fix. Housing is the foundation: I support rent stabilization, just-cause eviction protections, and ending exclusionary zoning. I would treat addiction as the public health emergency it is. And I would fund community-centered safety that addresses root causes. Community work can only go so far when the law itself is the barrier.
I have done homeless outreach and feeding programs for years, so I will say this plainly: clearing encampments without providing alternate housing does not solve homelessness — it relocates suffering and makes stability harder. I would make that practice illegal absent real housing options. Beyond that: rent stabilization to stop the gouging that pushes people out, just-cause eviction protections, emergency rental assistance, and permanent supportive housing. Delaware has roughly 1,200 shelter beds against a rising unhoused population. People need pathways to stability, not criminalization.
Very likely. Delaware has already passed an assault weapons ban, universal background checks, a permit-to-purchase law, and a Red Flag law. I support them, would defend them against rollback, and would strengthen secure storage requirements, which currently apply only in certain circumstances. But I have organized anti-violence gospel concerts in a community that has buried too many young people, and I will be honest: legislation alone will not fix this. We need funded, community-centered violence intervention addressing root causes — poverty, trauma, disinvestment — alongside strong gun laws.
I support creating a public option in Delaware — a real alternative to unaffordable private insurance for working families, individuals, and small businesses — and I support moving toward a statewide single-payer system as a long-term goal, so no Delawarean goes without coverage because of income or employment. I would confront Delaware's Black maternal health crisis directly: Black mothers face unconscionable rates of maternal mortality and birth complications, and that demands targeted, funded programs through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. And I would treat addiction as a health emergency, not a crime.
