As Mayor, I will serve as an active partner to address our mental health and addiction crises. Having served as a Deputy Coroner and with the Suicide Prevention Council, I’ve seen the heavy toll of these challenges firsthand. To tackle this, we need a unified approach that brings local organizations, law enforcement, and health services together. We must support healthcare partners in recruiting providers and establishing local in-patient drug and alcohol treatment, bridge communication gaps so families can easily navigate existing local services, and ensure police, EMTs, and firefighters have the funding, training, and co-responder tools needed for crisis situations. When my tenure as Mayor is over, I want my legacy to be that I left Gillette stronger, more connected, and better prepared for the future. I want people to remember a reliable, approachable city government that listened to citizens and tackled challenges with practical solutions. Specifically, I want our legacy to include a resilient, diverse economy that supports foundational industries alongside manufacturing, healthcare, and small businesses. I want a healthy community where mental health and addiction treatment are met with action, and our first responders have full backing. I want a place where affordable housing and good jobs ensure our children choose to stay. Above all, I want my legacy rooted in kindness & bringing people together.
Balancing a municipal budget requires discipline and foresight to protect taxpayers. To successfully manage essential services, invest in future needs, and remain responsible stewards of public funds, the city must prioritize core operations like public safety, emergency response, water, and infrastructure maintenance as the non-negotiable foundation of our budget. Because Gillette experiences natural economic cycles tied to energy markets, we must build and maintain strong reserve funds during robust years to act as a buffer against downturns without tax increases. Finally, every capital project must have clear goals, realistic costs, and accountability before committing taxpayer dollars.
Encouraging growth while preserving what makes Gillette special requires balancing economic diversification in manufacturing, healthcare, and logistics with championing local small businesses that form our economic heartbeat. We must protect our quality of life by investing in parks, walking paths, and green spaces that maintain our small-town charm. Future growth should reflect community voices through open public meetings, surveys, and transparent decisions via the City of Gillette Government Portal and the City Planning Commission. By managing development responsibly, we build a robust economy while keeping Gillette a welcoming home.
