Within the first 2 months, I would stabilize the financial security for the Town by either rebuilding a volunteer fire department or negotiate a viable contract with another municipality. A new safety building is not feasible however, we could explore enlarging the current fire structure. Beach safety is paramount, so beach patrol would be part of the contract.

Within the next two years, I would conduct a line by line financial review of all expenditures. I would also ask Town employees to provide their ideas to reduce costs. Finally, I would investigate and collect where appropriate all monies owed to the Town such as penalties, back taxes, fees and property owned by the Town but not utilized.
LBTS must join forces with Broward Solid Waste Authority of Broward County on their master plan. I would also improve and increase waste literacy starting with our town partner WastePro. WastePro has programs that we could connect with and distribute through the Town, Visitor Center and Chamber. We would also align with the neighborhood HOA Presidents and Condo HOAs to distribute tactics and strategies to reduce waste and increase recycling. This could include toxic/electronic waste drives and collections. Neighbors helping neighbors.
Being a vacation beach town, finding affordable housing/real estate in the Town is nearly impossible. That said, I would work with other cities like Pompano Beach and Fort Lauderdale on affordable housing options. We could also establish a bus or shuttle service to bring individuals into town for work. That will also solve for parking (both cost and availability).
Again, I would conduct a line by line review of current and future expenditures to see where we have the ability to cut costs. I would also survey all employees on their ideas on how to cut back on spending and be more effective.

Working closely with the Chamber of Commerce, we could promote tourism and help our businesses be healthy and thrive financially.
The Town began a strategic planning approach in the past which frankly stalled. I would resurrect the process and invite residents to be on a board to set the direction for our Town over the next 5, 10 and 20 years. We would canvas door to door and conduct monthly town hall meetings for feedback. Together we can preserve and restore the Town values that make LBTS so loved.
