The Teton County Sheriff is the chief law enforcement officer of our county, elected to a four-year term. The job consists of preserving the peace, managing the county jail, providing security for courts, and serving legal documents. The Sheriff is paid a salary of $145,000 per year, increasing to $153,700 in January 2027. I am running for another term as Sheriff because experienced, steady leadership matters. I have spent more than 25 years serving the people of Teton County in nearly every division of the Sheriff's Office, including patrol, investigations, detention, search and rescue, and school safety. Teton County is my home, and I have built relationships throughout this community based on integrity, professionalism, and accountability. I understand our challenges, know our community's values, and remain committed to leading an agency that protects our citizens while earning their trust every day.
Strong public safety depends on strong partnerships. The Sheriff's Office and the Jackson Police Department already work closely together, and I will continue building those relationships through communication, mutual respect, joint training, and coordinated responses. We all share the same mission of protecting our community. My focus is on supporting collaboration, solving problems together, and ensuring our agencies work as one team when serving the people of Teton County.
Community trust is built through relationships. I believe the Sheriff's Office should be visible, accessible, and engaged long before an emergency occurs. I will continue supporting school resource officers, attending community events, partnering with local organizations, and listening to residents' concerns. Whether addressing school safety, substance abuse, or neighborhood issues, I believe the best outcomes come from working together. Our deputies are members of this community, and maintaining that connection is essential to effective law enforcement.
The Teton County Sheriff's Office does not conduct mass surveillance, nor do I support collecting personal information on law-abiding citizens without a lawful purpose. Any information collected should be directly related to a legitimate criminal investigation and done in accordance with the Constitution and applicable laws. Technology is an important investigative tool, but protecting individual privacy and civil liberties is equally important. My commitment is to use technology responsibly while safeguarding the rights of the people we serve.
The Sheriff's Office will continue to follow all applicable federal and Wyoming laws while remaining focused on our primary responsibility—keeping Teton County safe. We are not an immigration enforcement agency. If presented with a valid judicial warrant or when required by law, we will cooperate with ICE to the extent of notifying them on the arrest of any foreign national to help determine their identity. At the same time, I want every member of our community to feel safe reporting crimes and working with law enforcement. Public safety depends on trust, and my goal is to maintain both public safety and public confidence.
