Wisconsin Legislative BranchWisconsin’s legislature makes state laws. The legislature has two houses: the Wisconsin Senate and the Wisconsin Assembly. Proposed laws (bills) can originate from either the state senate or assembly. Both houses must approve the bill before it is passed on to the governor for signature or veto. The legislature can override a veto with a two-thirds majority vote in each house. Voters elect representatives to represent their assembly district for a two-year term. As a working mother raising school-age children while watching my parents care for my aging grandparents, I see the healthcare challenges Wisconsin families face. My top priority is improving healthcare access, affordability, and quality, particularly in rural communities. I support strengthening rural hospitals, expanding access for low-income residents, lowering the Medicare eligibility age, and reducing uncompensated care costs that drive up expenses for everyone. I believe Wisconsin should accept available federal resources to expand affordable coverage and improve public health outcomes. A public buy-in option for BadgerCare would provide a practical, cost-effective alternative while expanding access to quality healthcare statewide.
Wisconsin's most pressing housing challenge is the lack of affordable housing, both for renters and first-time homebuyers. Rising rents have made it increasingly difficult for families to save for a down payment, while a shortage of starter homes has limited opportunities for homeownership. High construction costs, labor shortages, and restrictive zoning policies have contributed to this problem. I support making zoning laws more friendly to manufactured and prefabricated homes, which can provide quality, cost-effective housing and a pathway to generational wealth. I also support homebuyer assistance programs, efforts to prevent unfair rent inflation, and policies that ensure wages keep pace with the cost of living.
I support establishing an Independent Redistricting Commission to ensure Wisconsin's voting maps are fair, transparent, and free from partisan manipulation. I am grateful to the many advocates and organizations that have worked to advance fair maps in our state. Building on that progress, we must create a redistricting process that prioritizes voters over politicians. Clear standards such as compactness, respect for community boundaries, transparency, and compliance with the Voting Rights Act should guide map drawing. These reforms would strengthen public trust, promote fair representation, and help ensure every Wisconsin voter has an equal voice in our democracy.
I support updating Wisconsin's school funding formula to ensure every student has access to a high-quality education, regardless of ZIP code. I support fully funding special education, strengthening bilingual education programs, and adjusting aid levels for inflation. Students with disabilities often require specialized educators, assistive technology, and support services that depend on adequate funding. Public schools should not have to rely on local referendums simply to maintain basic operations. These investments in our future workforce are crucial to keeping Wisconsin’s economy strong. I also oppose the continued diversion of public funds to private school voucher programs, which is worsening resource shortages in school districts.
As a rural homeowner who relies on a private well, I understand the risks posed by nitrate and PFAS contamination. Wisconsin must adequately fund the DNR and restore the scientific expertise needed to develop and enforce evidence-based regulations. I support stronger environmental review standards, groundwater monitoring, emergency response plans for contamination events, and infrastructure investments that help communities and farms prevent pollution. As Vice Chair of the Brown County delegation of the Wisconsin Conservation Congress and a member of its environmental committees, I have experience working on conservation issues. I will advocate for policies that prioritize people, public health, and natural resources over private profit.
