If elected County Attorney, my top three priorities are straightforward: clear and consistent leadership, responsible AI governance, and effective law enforcement — all grounded in public trust. That means fairly implementing office policies without favoritism. That means proactively governing how AI is adopted in our office to improve efficiency, accountability, and fairness. And that means prosecuting cases, supporting victims, and exercising prosecutorial discretion predictably and consistently, so every person knows the law applies equally, regardless of who you are or where you live.
Nearly my entire professional career has prepared me for this role, with 30 years of experience as a practicing lawyer, and 25 years of experience in Scott County as a prosecutor. I graduated magna cum laude from William Mitchell College of Law, and was selected as a 2014 Minnesota Lawyer Attorney of the Year. I have experience in criminal and civil law, and experience in all levels of court from district court to the supreme court.
The biggest challenge is restoring confidence in leadership. Scott County deserves a County Attorney who shows up, leads by example, stays current with technology, and holds the entire office to that same standard. When leadership is absent — from court, from the office, from accountability — morale suffers and public trust erodes. I will set a different tone from day one: present, engaged, and committed to building a team that reflects the professionalism Scott County expects and deserves.
Racial equity in the justice system means every person — defendant, victim, witness, or juror — is treated fairly under the law, without bias. I will ensure this office complies with existing legal protections, including rules like Batson that guard against racial discrimination in jury selection. I will also listen to community concerns, and hold this office accountable to the same standard of fairness and justice I apply everywhere else.
I would address conflict directly, promptly, and fairly, and with the same consistency I bring to every decision. Within the office, that means setting clear expectations, maintaining open communications, and resolving disagreements before they erode teamwork. For the public, trust is earned through transparency and follow-through, by doing what you say, and holding yourself to the same standard you hold others. Predictable, principled leadership builds credibility and trust over time.
The County Attorney's most powerful tool for gun violence prevention is strict, consistent enforcement of existing laws — including illegal possession, prohibited persons, and firearms used in crimes. Scott County is not Minneapolis, and that's no accident. Maintaining safe communities requires prosecuting gun offenses seriously, and working closely with law enforcement to identify and address emerging threats before they escalate. I will prioritize that partnership and that vigilance.
