I am the best candidate for this position because I bring the experience, leadership, and commitment needed to lead the Sheriff's Office from day one. For almost three decades, I've served the people of Washington County, leading complex public safety operations, building strong partnerships, and making difficult decisions with integrity and accountability. As a lifelong Washington County resident, I'm personally invested in the safety and success of our communities. I was raised here and my wife and I have raised 5 children in Washington County. My focus is on reducing violent crime, supporting our deputies, strengthening partnerships, and ensuring the Sheriff's Office continues to earn the trust and confidence of the people it serves.
My top priorities as Sheriff are reducing violent crime, addressing mental health and substance use challenges, and supporting our first responders. I'll focus on proactive policing, targeting repeat violent offenders, and equipping deputies with the training and technology to keep our communities safe. At the same time, I'll continue building partnerships that connect people in crisis with services they need, while ensuring our first responders have the resources and support to succeed.
Transparency builds public trust. As Sheriff, I'll communicate openly with residents, share information proactively whenever possible, and ensure the Sheriff's Office remains accessible and accountable. I'll strengthen relationships in our communities, provide timely updates on incidents and agency initiatives, use data to measure performance, and foster a culture where professionalism, integrity, and public confidence guide every decision. This includes community forums, communication protocol.
My leadership style is collaborative, accountable, and people-focused. I believe in setting clear expectations, leading by example, and building strong teams through trust, communication, and integrity. Throughout my career, I've led complex public safety operations and built partnerships that improve safety for our communities. Those experiences have prepared me to lead the Sheriff's Office on day one with a commitment to serving both our residents and deputies.
The Sheriff's Office plays a critical role in preventing gun violence in our community. We do this through proactive policing, strong investigations, and partnerships with public safety partners. We'll focus on identifying and holding violent offenders accountable, sharing intelligence, and supporting prevention efforts through schools, community organizations, and mental health partnerships. Keeping firearms out of the hands of violent criminals is essential to maintaining safe communities.
Our patrol deputies will not enforce federal immigration laws. Our primary responsibility is protecting public safety, responding to crime, and working with local, state, and federal partners to protect our community. Victims and witnesses should never be afraid to report crimes or seek assistance. The Sheriff's Office should enforce the laws within its legal authority while maintaining strong relationships with all members of our community.
