First, affordable housing and economic security — families are being priced out of communities they built. I will fight for rent stabilization, expanded affordable housing production, and economic policies that center working families.
Second, fully funded healthcare — including restoring Medicaid benefits, passing the Minnesota Health Plan, and ensuring every Minnesotan has access to care regardless of income, zip code, or immigration status.
Third, protecting immigrant families and expanding inclusive democracy — District 39B has a large immigrant population that has faced federal overreach, surveillance, and fear. I will fight for language access, safe school zones, and policies that ensure everyone can fully participate in civic life.
A vibrant economy starts with workers, not trickle-down. I will support raising the minimum wage, expanding paid family and medical leave, and investing in workforce training and transit infrastructure. I will fight for housing affordability — because housing costs are the single biggest driver of financial instability for working families. Small businesses, particularly immigrant and minority-owned businesses, need streamlined permitting and access to capital to grow.
As Columbia Heights' first mayor of color and only the second Latina mayor in Minnesota history, I've built multilingual outreach and organized our first Pride celebration to amplify excluded voices. I will support affordable housing investment, Medicaid expansion, fully funded schools, safe school zones, language access across state services, and pay equity — because disparities are the result of policy choices and require intentional solutions.
Yes — passing the ERA is one of my primary legislative priorities. A constitutional amendment cannot be repealed by a future legislature, and equality shouldn't depend on who holds power. The ERA would close gaps leaving women, LGBTQ+, and nonbinary Minnesotans vulnerable. Equal rights must be guaranteed in our constitution, not subject to political winds.
I will support "Prove It First" legislation to halt copper-sulfide mining threatening the Boundary Waters, oppose AI data centers that strain energy and water resources, and ban NDAs silencing public officials about harmful projects. I will fully fund the Environmental Justice Act, strengthen clean water protections, and invest in stormwater infrastructure — because frontline communities bear the greatest environmental burden and deserve the strongest protections.
I will support legislation keeping ICE away from schools, hospitals, and campuses, and requiring federal agents to show visible identification. I will fight to ban assault weapons, gun modifications, and ghost guns, and repeal the 1985 preemption law blocking local gun measures. Safe communities also require investment in mental health crisis response, affordable housing, and youth programming — because safety means more than enforcement.
I will support a resolution to overturn Citizens United via constitutional amendment, limit corporate and Super-PAC donations, and increase disclosure requirements to keep dark money out of elections. I've built my campaign on small donors and community support — not corporate PACs — because elected officials should be accountable to constituents, not their largest contributors.

Affordability and accessibility of health care, child care, and housing. People are struggling to both get and pay for the medical care that they need - I support the Minnesota Health Plan, a universal, single-payer system, and in the meantime, expanding access to Minnesota Care, lowering drug prices, and removing barriers to care. Many families are facing hard realities of trying to find child care, and then when they do, then trying to afford it. Minnesota needs a statewide solution to build more facilities, pay daycare workers a living wage, and also subsidize the costs. With housing, we as a state need to build more types of housing quickly to improve supply, increase competition in the market, and drive down costs for residents.
One of the biggest things we could do at the state level to stimulate the economy is to build more housing and to do it fast. Minnesota is more than 100,000 units short of all types of housing - from apartments to single family homes and everything in between. Building more housing will drive up competition in the market and drive down costs, allowing for Minnesotans to spend money elsewhere. Also, increased supply will also provide an opportunity for the state to expand our workforce.
Health care - Improving health care access for BiPOC communities affected by negative environmental decisions in the past, provide funding for initiatives to close the maternal and infant mortality rate gaps.
Housing - Provide downpayment assistance to first-time homebuyers of color, increase renter protections.
Education - Increasing the number of teachers of color, support the North Star Promise Program, additional investments in public schools located in areas historically high in poverty.

I am a firm believer that we need to do all that we can to protect our environment. I support passing Prove it First legislation to protect the Boundary Waters, enacting a data center moratorium, expanding urban tree forests to combat heat islands, making improvements to our power grid to support increased wind and solar power generation, and working to desify our cities so that our city and state can be less car reliant, which will lead to reduced car miles traveled and less emissions.
The best public safety is proactive public safety. By meeting people’s basic needs like housing, education, health care, and jobs, we will be able to tackle many of our public safety issues today. Outside of that, I also support initiatives to take common sense action on gun violence prevention, investments in juvenile intervention programs and youth mental health, funding and resources to tackle the substance use disorder crisis, and regulating automatic license plate readers.
The Constitution starts with the phrase “We the People,” not “We the corporations.” Candidates should be elected based on their ideas, convictions, and qualifications, not on how well-connected or wealthy they are. I support Minnesota following legislation passed in Hawaii to get corporate and special interest money out of politics. The law clarifies rights that “human people” vs “artificial people” (corporations) have, stating that only “human people” have a right to contribute to campaigns.
