The biggest issues that squeeze working-class families like mine have been the costs of housing, healthcare, and college tuition. Once elected I hope to be appointed to serve on the committees that will tackle these issues so I can apply my experience and background in these areas. I support universal, single-payer healthcare to lower costs and expand access to care in our state, and I hope to extend the North Star Promise program that currently provides tuition free college to students from families making less than $80,000 per year to families making less than $150,000 per year. I also hope to make it easier for cities, counties, and our state to invest a portion of our financial reserves in affordable housing projects!
The most important thing we can do to address inflation is to make sure workers’ wages are rising faster than inflation. In order to achieve this goal, I support raising the state-wide minimum wage. We also need to address the cost of housing, healthcare, and higher education, three areas the state has significant control over, and which have been suffering from poor focus and investment in recent years. I hope to streamline public services and focus on making a difference in these three areas.
I support increased funding for grants in the Eliminating Health Disparities Initiative and expanding services at community clinics like Open Cities! I also support legislation to increase African American home ownership specifically and support investments in affordable housing development organizations like the Rondo Community Land Trust. I hope to address racial disparities in our criminal justice system and support many reform efforts including the innovative “End Slavery Now” campaign.
Yes! This is long overdue and I fully support this effort!
I will support legislation to protect the boundary waters and clean drinking water. We need stronger regulations to protect our watershed from PFAS chemicals and to hold polluters accountable for their impact on the environment. We also need to expand options for public transit and use of electric vehicles. I support a special bonding bill focused on reducing carbon emissions from all buildings in the MUSH sector- municipal buildings, universities, schools, and hospitals.
I support gun safety legislation from Mom’s Demand Action, including an assault weapons ban and common-sense gun control. We need more investment in school safety, and increased patrols on the light rail and metro transit lines. I want to see more focus on helping incarcerated individuals re-enter society with actually useful job programs that prevent recidivism. I also believe we should increase penalties for those who violate restraining orders to protect victims of domestic abuse.
I support a constitutional amendment to end “Citizen’s United” and agree that corporations are not people and thus not entitled to free speech. I support federal and state financing of elections similar to the systems in Canada and the U.K. so candidates can spend more time meeting voters and engaging on issues than fundraising. We should increase the amount every Minnesotan can donate through our state Political Campaign Refund (PCR) program to make person-to-person fundraising even easier.
