Gun safety, healthcare, and economic growth. I canvassed the district and listened. Gun violence causes and triggers trauma. If we want to heal, we have to address the things that create unnecessary stress. That leads me to healthcare. We need comprehensive healthcare for all. From hypertension, to surgeries, to mental health, to food: our people need to heal without economic burden and with accessible services. Lastly, economic growth–jobs and housing. Minnesota has enough wealth for everyone to be housed and employed well. Do we have the will to do it? I meet people who say they have no needs the government can provide. I meet people in need of food, jobs, and housing. The disparities are great and we must close the gap to grow.
We must continue to diversify the workforce within our strongest industries like manufacturing, tech, bio science, and agriculture. When diverse communities have family members with stable, good-paying jobs, they will participate in a healthy economy. When inflation is up, the raised interest rates will slow spending and encourage people to save money. People should be paid enough to meet basic needs and save. Inflation can be slowed if everyone is paid enough to choose to reduce their spending.
I support increased home ownership in BIPOC communities, investment in the SNAP benefits program, BIPOC economic opportunities in all employment industries, access to integrative healthcare with decreased costs for care and medication, funding for women's health and safety, fully funded education to increase the wellness, diversity, and cultural competency of educators and students, improved air quality, and comprehensive solutions to drug overdoses. I also support the Minnesota Migration Act.
Yes. Equality under the law is common sense, but given our history of racism, it must be explicit, not assumed. The amendment empowers people to contest any level of government who uses the law to discriminate against them. It holds judges and law enforcement accountable to manners in which they interpret and enforce laws. It also guards against law-making that would intentionally cause harm or inequities to historically marginalized and disenfranchised communities.
We must pass legislation that invests more resources to stop the production of, manage the existing, and prevent PFAS pollution in our water and toxic air pollutants. We also must increase these environmental protection efforts in neighborhoods with concentrated communities of color and poor people where air toxins are more pervasive. We must be anti-racist in our effort to clean the environment.
Stable homes, gainful employment, affordable food, access to healthcare, & elimination of debt bring safety to the entire community. Meeting basic human needs brings collective safety. Law enforcement (Police, ICE, etc.) & mass incarceration do not create safety. They respond to violence & perpetuate it. I support reallocating funds from law enforcement and prisons to help meet the basic needs & generate true safety, including ending slavery & protecting black & indigenous women & girls.
Clean Election MN is an organization that has laid out a clear path to reduce the influence of big money in elections, which I support. 1) Support the reversal of the SCOTUS decision for Citizens United, 2) end the use of dark money in MN, 3) keep and improve public financing in MN, 4) stop conflicts of interest funding, and 5) strengthen the MN Finance Board.

If re-elected to the session, and if we are fortunate enough to secure a DFL trifecta this coming biennium, I hope to champion and prioritize policies that will help uplift the substantive tangible standard of living of working class Minnesotans across our state: 1). Building support for, and passing the Minnesota Health Plan (MHP), Sen. Marty’s single payer health care for all bill, 2). Defending our local municipalities like Minneapolis and marginalized/vulnerable neighbors from a hostile tyrannical federal government, devastating funding cuts, and forces like ICE, and 3). Working diligently to help my district, located in the Southside Green Zone, realize environmental justice by supporting the East Phillips Urban Farm vision & project.
I stand in solidarity with working class families. I will advocate for wage increases, and boosting the statewide minimum wage, and strengthening labor protections. To combat inflation and the rising cost of living, I support policies & programs to ease the burden on working families. I have championed statewide initiatives such as tuition-free public college for working families, universal school meals, and earned sick and safe time. We must also explore and pass new progressive tax options.
We need systemic policies to address racial & ethnic disparities, focusing on economic equity, housing justice, and civil rights. In the Senate, we combatted racial disparities in the child protection system. As Higher Ed Committee Chair, I championed tuition-free public & tribal colleges for working-class families, and Hunger-Free Campus grants. I have also advocated for environmental-racial justice via restorative urban planning / reparations to Black neighborhoods destroyed by highways.
Yes, I believe that an inclusive and holistic Equal Rights Amendment is very much long overdue, and advocates have fought tirelessly to advance. As such, we should allow for a ballot question to incorporate it into our Constitution and statutes. For many sessions, the Legislature has been unable to pass the ERA, and I believe the voters of Minnesota would show up resoundingly in favor of it. If successful, I would actively campaign in support of this ERA ballot question across my district.
I am proudly endorsed by countless environmental advocacy organizations that work tirelessly to advance clean water protections and champion the preservation of our environment. If re-elected, I will continue to support the brilliant policies brought forward by my colleagues including Prove It First, the Bad Actor Bill, Permanent Protection Bill, Amortization Bill, and the LCCMR / ENRTF package – all legislation that protects our boundary waters and watersheds from pollution and destruction.
I am the chief author of the STAR (Safety, Trust, and Respect) Act. It aims to make Minnesota a sanctuary state by prohibiting local law enforcement and state agencies from collaborating with or enforcing civil immigration actions. It limits ICE Cooperation, prevents federal civil immigration enforcement in sensitive areas, and restricts state databases from sharing personal data of Minnesotans with federal immigration authorities. I will continue to strengthen this legislation next session.
I support expanding publicly financed election systems, similar to Minnesota’s Political Contribution Refund Program. We must overturn Citizens United, prohibit corporate PAC contributions, and strengthen transparency of independent expenditures and Political Action Committees. I will prioritize shifting political power away from wealthy donors and corporate interests toward everyday voters. I support the “Move to Amend”: passing a US Constitutional amendment to abolish corporate personhood.

Economic Stability & Housing: I will advocate for small businesses, local homeowners, and affordable housing expansion, alongside structured solutions for our unhoused neighbors.
Accountability, Elections & Corrections: I will focus on government oversight to investigate fraud, protect the integrity of election rules, and bring accountability to our local correctional facilities.

A vibrant economy starts at the grassroots. Having been unhoused and now a small business owner with a finance background, I understand the real impact of inflation on District 62 families. I will fight to lower living costs by expanding affordable housing, supporting our local small businesses with state grant programs, and stopping the pushout of working-class neighbors. We need practical, community-first fiscal policies that ensure every neighborhood can grow and prosper together.
Addressing disparities requires real economic and structural action. In the Senate, I will support legislation targeting housing inequity funding programs that convert empty units into stable homes, since housing is a right, not a privilege. I will also champion complete police reform, ensuring state standards hold departments accountable while building real peace officer-community trust, and expand targeted state grants for minority- and local small-business owners to close the wealth gap.
Yes, I strongly support putting the Equal Rights Amendment on the ballot. Equality under the law should never depend on who holds political power. Passing the Minnesota ERA will permanently protect fundamental rights prohibiting discrimination based on race, sex, gender identity, pregnancy, disability, and sexual orientation in our state constitution. District 62 deserves strong, permanent constitutional safeguards so every neighbor is protected, valued, and treated with full dignity.
I know clean land, water, and air are essential for our children’s future. To protect Minnesota’s environment, I support introducing a Bottle Law requiring deposits on glass, plastic, and aluminum cans to boost recycling and clear landfills. Additionally, I propose local green initiatives like yearly giveaways of electric bikes for youth and electric golf carts for seniors to reduce gas emissions in our city. District 62 deserves practical, sustainable solutions now.
As someone who was once homeless on the streets of Minneapolis, I know safe communities start with housing. True safety means stopping the harmful stigma that assumes all unhoused neighbors are on drugs, and instead providing stable, dignified homes for those who want them. In the Senate, I will support legislation that funds permanent housing, expands community mental health resources, and rebuilds public safety with accountable peace officers focused on real trust and harm prevention.
Running for mayor taught me how deeply billionaire money distorts our democracy, prioritizing special interest agendas over real community needs. To reduce big money in elections, I support legislation strengthening Minnesota’s disclosure laws to end dark money, overturning the influence of massive corporate donors, and creating grassroots public funding for local and State candidates. We must ensure that candidates represent the voices of District 62, not wealthy special interests.
