In Minnesota, a state senator represents roughly 78,000 people, while a representative or house member represents approximately 39,000 people. There are 67 members in the Senate and 134 in the House. Rural patients deserve healthcare that is affordable and close to home. Right now we lost most services from 1 hospital in our district and will be losing the ICU in the other hospital. The other hospital serving residents is struggling financially. Over 20 rural clinics have closed in our area.
Our state should fully fund our public school districts so that it's not coming from property taxes and is not hurting our rural students. Our schools are struggling while homeowners struggle to pay their property taxes.
Our state needs to continue protecting everyone’s civil and human rights. With all the attacks on rights by our federal government, we need to ensure that Minnesota continues to protect our rights.
I support increasing funding to higher education. I support funding to build more homes and create more day care centers and in-home daycare providers. I support being a welcoming environment to immigrants.
I support trust busting. I support upfront pricing at medical centers, legislative action to bring down drug prices and a MN healthcare commission that puts caps on medical costs. I would work to eliminate dynamic pricing and hold supermarkets accountable for misleading prices.
I support legislation that would keep ICE out of sensitive areas. I support recruiting teachers and professors who look like the variety of students they serve. I support legislation that would end discrimination in housing and employment.
I support adding the Equal Rights Amendment into the Minnesota State Constitution. I believe that we need to do anything we can to protect the rights of women and everyone else.
I will always listen to stakeholders and advocate for policies which would make my district healthier. Communities in my district need funding to update their waste water treatment plants. I will work to secure the funding from the state. I will work with farmers to incentivize practices that help combat water pollution, such as growing oats and cover crops. I support Prove It First legislation.
We need to support our law enforcement officers by providing them with the best training and resources to serve their communities. We need to provide adequate mental health services. We need to provide positive opportunities for youth. We need to ensure a strong social safety net to help those in need. We need to hold offenders accountable for their crimes and provide opportunities for rehabilitation.
Minnesota has been a leader in campaign finance reform that includes spending limits and contribution limits. In Minnesota, I believe the spending limit should be enforced for those not taking the public subsidy. Federally, I believe that we need to overturn Citizen's United.
