I am the candidate with the most wisdom. As a 58-year-old retired native Twin Citian who has been married for over 35 years with four adult children and two dogs, I have a tremendous amount of life experience. Over my career, I worked for companies cleaning up the environment, making paint stick to metal, and most recently running a $300 million-dollar chemical plant in Memphis, TN. In addition, my wife and I also started a gymnastics business from scratch and built it over 16 years before selling it to one of our employees. Distinguishing between “needs” and “wants” can be very difficult and is something the current council has failed to do. I will bring a vast amount of business practicality to the city’s fiscal management.
Reducing property taxes and controlling spending. The role of government is to provide a safe and secure community where hard-working citizens can live out and realize their dreams, raise a family, and enjoy life. Brooklyn Park’s poor fiscal management is jeopardizing our ability to pursue dreams. From 2022 to 2026 property taxes increased 42% and general fund expenditure increased almost 43%. In my opinion this is clear fiscal irresponsibility, and it needs to be reversed.
Improving the fiscal management of the city is the best way I can truly positively impact all members of the community. When I managed a chemical business in Memphis, I budgeted expense of almost $300 million annually, employed over 300 people (mostly union), and modified my management approach to culturally fit in with our South Korean facility. My door was always open to anyone who wanted to talk, and I’d use the same approach if elected. E-mail me or call anytime you want to discuss an issue.
The first step in true accountability for elected officials is to stop electing poor leaders. That is why this election is so important. “Tax and spend” is not leadership and the current council is happy to continue spending dollars they don’t have and raising taxes to do it. This must stop, now. Overall, the city does a good job with transparency. The city website has a tremendous amount of information available to all.
