I am very passionate about our public school education, educators and students. Our area has one the lowest literacy rates in the nation due to our schools being underfunded. The other issue is homelessness due to our local healthcare systems bringing people in for treatment (physical and mental) and not helping them to get back home. Some of whom live many miles away.
Education. Priority: pass fair, caring school‑funding reform using a student‑needs formula (base funding plus weights for poverty, English learners, disabilities, rural). Finance with progressive revenue and an education trust, phased over 2-3 years. Invest in early childhood, mental health, special ed, facilities; ensure transparency, audits, outcomes and community voice.

Because state funds for public school education are shrinking, it is becoming more difficult to provide children and youth with a quality education. I feel public taxpayer monies should not be diverted to private and charter schools. I also would like to address the discrepancies in standards for public schools from private schools - which impacts how funds may be used.
Education. I would discuss with other legislators how consistently decreasing state funding is affecting public schools. I would solicit their opinions on a solution for this on-going problem and formulate a plan to present.
