I am running for Clerk of District Court because I believe the office needs a strong leader with experience to continue providing exemplary service to the public regarding court records and public access to them. I have over 15 years of experience in the legal field and am familiar with the staff at our local law offices. I use the current electronic filing system daily and am familiar with how it functions. I have previous experience managing employees. My husband and I own a small business in Laramie, where I currently do all bookkeeping and payroll, in addition to working a full-time job, which speaks to my ability to manage my time. I will bring my experience, familiarity with the system and devotion to Albany County to this office.
I would like to ensure the public has continued access to the court records and work with the Wyoming Supreme Court to grow and expand on the current public access system. Another goal is to ensure the office abides by all requirements in the Wyoming Statutes as they pertain to the office of the Clerk of District Court. Finally, I hope to work closely with all other offices in relation to the District Court to ensure there is a positive relationship, which helps overall judicial economy.
My biggest challenge will be jury trials. The public plays an important role in jury trials, and I want to ensure they have as enjoyable of an experience as possible. One unique skill I bring to the table is that I currently serve a very different role when it comes to jury trials in the District Court. This will help me see an overall picture of the trial, which I believe will give me a unique perspective on the way they are handled. I will work closely with current staff to ensure trials are handled professionally and run smoothly.
The District Court Clerk's Office must implement the technology provided by the Supreme Court when it comes to public access of court records. I have used this system in previous employment as well as my current job, and I am familiar with the system, its strengths, and what it lacks. I am willing to work with the Supreme Court to provide feedback on what works and what doesn't and will advocate on behalf of the public to continue to provide a system that is beneficial to all who desire to use it. Regarding court-ordered payments, there are currently options for paying online, via phone or in person. I would love to hear comments from the public on how the current system can be improved.

I am running to be your next Clerk of District Court because I enjoy helping people and it's a job that I am extremely familiar with. I have 16 years experience working for Albany County and I have served as a Deputy Clerk under Court Clerks Stacy Lam and Janice Sexton.
My top three priorities will be to increase access to public records, keep operating costs as low as possible, and continue to keep our office at the forefront of technological advances while maintaining the excellent customer service that our office is known for.
I feel the biggest challenge will be protecting confidential records while increasing access to public records. Court records will eventually be searchable online and we will have to make sure that those records designated as restricted by state statute or rules of civil procedure remain confidential.
I know that public records in Wyoming will be available online in the future. This is something that I will advocate for and I will volunteer our office as a test court once the legislature and Wyoming Supreme Court grant their approval. Until that day we will continue to provide court records through the public access terminal in our office and we will continue to give as much direction and assistance as we are allowed over the phone and by mail.

Our office already accepts cash, card and check but I would like to find a way to add digital payments. I will look into adding services such as Venmo and PayPal for payment options in our office.
