I am a lifelong Wyoming educator with 40 years of experience and a veteran legislator. I have a proven record of leadership, team building, innovation and problem solving. These are all qualities that are desperately needed at this time. As your Superintendent I will focus on our kids, our schools and our future. Wyoming’s future is built by strong families and strong teachers in our classrooms. As someone who has spent 40 years as a teacher and coach, I know firsthand the challenges and triumphs our schools face daily. I am running for Superintendent to bring a steady, experienced hand to our Department of Education—one that focuses on student achievement and respects the hard work and concerns of our parents, educators and local boards
No. I think that is a local issue. The studies I have seen on this issue in the past have not indicated any significant cost savings. The model is based on average daily membership, ADM. Consolidation does not change ADM.
The most recent recalibration was what I would characterize as the GOOD, the BAD, the UGLY. I served on 4 recalibrations. Inexperienced legislators are saying "we have not recalibrated in 15 years." Recal is a study of necessary changes to solve problems. It is not throwing the baby out with the bath water and messing up our schools every 5 years. Good Grief! I hope the new legislature will REPEAL the unnecessary, harmful changes that were crammed down our throats and RESTORE the previous law with full funding. Then work the issues they were supposed to; security, food service & tech. GOOD: Funding increase +elementary counselors. BAD:health ins. ADM, RCA & 450 teaching jobs cut. UGLY: Usurp local control! Activity,gifted-talent cuts.
Our greatest strength is our people! I believe in the Wyoming I grew up in & where Becky and I raised our four kids. A Wyoming of conservative values where every child has the opportunity to succeed and live the American Dream, regardless of their zip code. We have many blessings & abundance in WYO. It is easy to partner as we all know each other. We need to capitalize on new opportunities because when our students succeed, Wyoming succeeds! Working together, we can keep Wyoming schools great and prepare the next generation of Wyoming leaders, workers, and citizens. This team building minimizes our challenge of diseconomy of scale. Every student has potential and Wyoming’s future starts when parents and teachers unlock that potential.
