I-49 Expansion Protecting funding for our public schools Protecting our votes

I-49 is a nightmare to drive south of Kansas City. The amount of traffic that runs through this highway needs to be addressed and I plan on doing that when I get to Jeff City.

Removing public school's funding hurts the students, teachers, and the towns they reside in. Ray-Pec and Belton both have great public schools for our children. If we keep giving away their funding through school vouchers and school of choice, and getting rid of income tax, those children left at the schools will be at a disadvantage because it will be up to the parents to pay for a lot of the amenities that are currently provided.

We have to stop Jeff City from overturning what we voters vote for. Sick pay, women's rights, marriage for all, right to work. With the Republican party having a super majority, they can do what ever the big money people want (Herzog/Heritage Foundation).
Making sure that the voters are listened too. We need to hold our representatives accountable.

I have an interest and position in virtually ever policy. But, two areas I want to see policy shifts in the MOST are with Education Funding and Infrastructure Management.

Education needs to be better funded. Teachers shouldn't have to buy supplies nor should they need second jobs. Of many routes I'd like to see, my favorite would be changing tax policy to funding schools less through municipalities and more through the state - ensuring we have equitable distribution of our tax dollars towards our kids. Wealthier towns and neighborhoods should not be allowed to have all of the funding simply because they control all of the municipal property taxes. The school money allocation needs to be state controlled and apportioned equitably.

Infrastructure maintenance, likewise, should be transitioned over to MODOT, ending the corporate rent-seeking that the government currently allows, letting us save hundreds of millions to billions every single year we allocate for paying off private bonds.
My biggest priority is creating Universal Childcare for ALL Missourians.

I understand the struggle of working and raising a young child. I currently receive state childcare subsidies for my daughter. Yet, our state has slashed taxes for the rich and compensated for it by hefty reductions in welfare spending. This very subsidy currently has a waitlist for new applicants, because there is no money for new parents. People want to have kids, but don't want to struggle feeding them on their meager wages that are surpassed by inflation each year.

By making a program that legislates and regulates childcare in this state, not only could it viewed as something Missourians can point to as a shining success, but it could be a path forward for the entire nation to adopt. I don't want to just settle for mediocrity either. I know going into the legislature, as a Dem Soc, I have no political capital to lose. So, way I see it, I'd be in "political debt" so why settle for less?
