My experience as the sitting Presiding Commissioner and eight years in the State Legislature combined with my small business experience with different companies since 1978. I have served on multiple Boards and Commissions including the MidAmerica Regional Council Board, Clay County EDC, Kansas City TIF Commission and the Kansas City Zoo Taxing District Board to name a few. As a lifelong resident of Clay County, I know our history and the needs of our people. I have and will continue to stand up for Clay County and our citizens.
What would be your priorities for the next year?
Tax relief and greater efficiencies in government. I have signed into law property tax levy reductions, Commercial Surtax reductions and Senior Property Tax reductions (MO Senate Bill 190). I will promote fiscally responsible tax reductions for our citizens. When I talk about reductions in government spending, I started with my own salary. I supported the current County Constitution which specifically reduced my annual salary nearly $30,000. Standing with Law Enforcement. Even with tax reductions our Sheriff's deputies are receiving increased competitive pay. In addition, upgrades to their equipment and training. We recently completed construction of our Law Enforcement Resource Center which includes a shooting range and a cutting-edge virtual/augmented reality training facility. We are addressing a needed new detention facility. Improving our Roads/Bridges and Parks and upgrading technology to better serve and communicate with citizens.
