Washington County Commissioner Dist 1
The county commissioners act as the governing body of the county. They enact policies such as the establishment of the property tax rate and the adoption of the budget. They adopt ordinances or local laws that affect citizens living in the unincorporated areas of the county. They are elected by all voters in the county to represent the district in which they live and serve a four year term.

I had a 40 year career with Colorado State University Extension as an educator in Washington County, retired December 2021. I also volunteered in several community and church organizations in Akron and the county, including serving 8 years on the Akron School Board. In 2022 I ran and was elected as County Commissioner for District 1; and have served 3.5 years already and running for a second term.

Completing land use regulations addressing energy production and transmission for the county continues to be my top priority. Next we need to update the 1041 regulations for projects of state interest. This needs to tie into an effort to update the County Master Plan.
This will all get started in the first 100 days; but will take a few months to complete.
The county budget is stable with adequate reserve funds under "normal" conditions. If the state takes some of the HUTF funds away from counties, that impacts on our Road & Bridge Fund reducing our ability to maintain our county roads. Likewise, the state adjustments to reduce property taxes reduces our General Fund.
I have unfinished projects I would like to complete -- the land use regulations, adjustments to the county administration staffing, building a new Road & Bridge shop, and several more small updates to county buildings to increase security and function.
