If elected Sheriff, my number one priority will be the men and women who serve the Eagle County Sheriff's Office every day.
I believe that creating a supportive, professional, and positive work environment is the foundation of a successful law enforcement agency. When deputies feel valued, respected, and empowered to do their jobs, the entire community benefits.
Strong leadership starts from within. Deputies who are motivated to come to work each day are better equipped to serve our residents, build meaningful relationships throughout the community, and collaborate effectively with our partner agencies. A healthy workplace culture leads to better service, stronger teamwork, increased productivity, and improved public trust.
As Sheriff, I will focus on giving deputies the tools, support, and autonomy they need to succeed. I will eliminate mandatory traffic contact contacts and allow deputies to focus their time where it matters most—patrolling our neighborhoods, building relationships in our schools, engaging with local businesses, and addressing the concerns that are most important to our communities.
By investing in the professionals who serve Eagle County, we can strengthen our Sheriff's Office, improve community relationships, and ensure the highest level of service for everyone who calls Eagle County home.
Together, we can build a Sheriff's Office that supports its employees, earns the trust of the community, and is prepared to meet the challenges of the future.
The primary responsibility of the Eagle County Sheriff's Office is to protect the safety of our community.
As Sheriff, I will ensure that deputies are focused on their core mission: enforcing the law fairly, consistently, and professionally. Deputies take an oath to uphold the Constitution and the laws of the State of Colorado, and it is our responsibility to carry out that duty without political influence or personal bias.
Law enforcement requires sound judgment and discretion, but the Sheriff's Office should not pick and choose which laws to enforce. Our role is to apply the law fairly, protect individual rights, and maintain public safety.
I believe the community deserves a Sheriff's Office that is professional, accountable, and focused on serving the public. By providing clear expectations, supporting our deputies, and maintaining strong partnerships throughout Eagle County, we can ensure that our agency remains effective, trusted, and responsive to the needs of our residents.
Many of these subsistence crimes are connected to underlying issues including substance abuse, mental health challenges, housing instability, or economic hardship. While law enforcement has a responsibility to enforce the law and protect victims, repeatedly arresting individuals without addressing the root causes of their behavior often does little to improve long-term public safety.
Establishing collaborative relationships with our local partners, such as Eagle County Behavioral Health, Eagle County Health and Human Services, and Eagle County School District among others, can help us to identify the underlying issues and provide resources for members of our community.
At the same time, accountability remains important. Individuals who repeatedly victimize businesses, create public safety concerns, or refuse available assistance should expect appropriate enforcement action. The goal should be to reduce repeat offenses, improve community safety, and use public resources effectively.
The Sheriff's Office cannot solve these challenges alone. Success requires collaboration among law enforcement, the courts, local governments, service providers, businesses, and community members. By focusing on both accountability and access to services, we can work toward reducing repeat offenses and improving outcomes for individuals and the community as a whole.
