The 3 most important characteristics of an elected official is conviction, accountability, and transparency. In a time where Coloradans trust the government less than ever, elected leaders must be able to stand in their beliefs instead of buckling to pressure no matter the threats, like our governor just did. Accountability means not having the hubris to admit you were wrong and more importantly learn from it and be willing to hold others accountable- I was one of the first signers onto the formal complaint that led to Jared Polis' censure. I've made my own mistakes as a person prior to being a candidate and have owned up to them and both of those have made me a better leader. Lastly, elected leaders need to be transparent. With the massive influx of dark money in our elections, I'm proud to be the only Democrat in the CO HD-31 race to not have taken corporate PAC money, oil and gas money, or money from MAGA Republicans. It is time we put forth new leaders to rebuild community trust.
Of course it is, but there is a massive difference in giving ground where it's needed, and sacrificing your values and your community for the sake of working across the aisle. Passability, fiscal objections, and implementation are where ideas and practicality clash. I've always been told that the best outcomes are where no one feels like they've come out on top- That's where the best policy for everyone is passed.
There's 4 major things our campaign is running on:
-Banning corporations from buying single family homes in Colorado
-Closing loopholes to make sure polluters can't weasel out of accountability
-Creating a legal pathway in Colorado to prosecute ICE agents abusing their authority
-Ban corporations from participating in elections
When we built our campaign platform, we deep-canvassed Thornton for 3 months and asked people what the most important issues were to them- But we took it a step further and asked them what they specifically wanted to see get done. These were the biggest answers and it is what became our platform. We believe community members should be part of the solution making process, because the people most effected by policy should be shaping it.
Billionaires are buying our elections and it shows. State House seats used to be won with just $20,000, now it's almost normal to see candidates raise close to $100,000. My race is already being flooded with hundreds of thousands of dollars for attacks against me and my character rather than the substance of our policies. Corporations are dumping money into my opponent's bank account to try their hardest to ensure that she wins so she can continue voting against AI regulation, voting to erode renters' rights, and voting to keep allowing those same corporations supporting her to buy our elections instead of taxing the rich and using those funds to support small businesses and local economies.
