There is one political party Primary election for this race: Democratic. All Democratic affiliated and unaffiliated voters will be eligible to cast a vote in this race. Unaffiliated voters will receive both DEM and REP ballots. Unaffiliated voters must return only ONE ballot. The United States Senate is one of the two houses of the United States Congress. Senators are elected to a six-year term, and every two years the members of one class--approximately one-third of the senators--face election or reelection. As the upper chamber of Congress, the Senate has several powers of advice and consent that are unique to it. These include the approval of treaties, and the confirmation of Cabinet secretaries, Supreme Court justices, federal judges, flag officers, regulatory officials, ambassadors, other federal executive officials, and other federal uniformed officers. In addition to these, in cases wherein no candidate receives a majority of electors for vice president, the duty falls to the Senate to elect one of the top two recipients of electors for that office. Furthermore, the Senate has the responsibility of conducting the trials of those impeached by the House.

Senadora Julie Gonzales is a progressive Democrat representing north, west, and downtown Denver in the Colorado Senate. Julie’s roots run deep: her family has lived in Colorado since before it was a state. Julie was born in Arizona and raised in South Texas where her family found ranch work and opportunity. Julie’s mom, once a rodeo queen who was widowed with two kids by the time she was 20, fought her way back to the classroom as an elementary school teacher. Her dad worked cattle and later became a medical cannabis producer. As the sixth of seven kids, Julie learned what her parents preached: relentless work, radical honesty, and to always lift as we climb. Elected in 2018, Julie brought that organizing spirit into the Capitol and turned it into results. She enshrined abortion as a fundamental right, advanced voting rights, allocated millions of dollars to build and preserve affordable housing, and strengthened protections for immigrant communities from ICE overreach.

I am passionate about building a government that works for working people and communities, not just corporations and the wealthy. My priorities include making life more affordable, lowering healthcare costs, expanding affordable housing, protecting reproductive freedom, strengthening voting rights, defending civil liberties, addressing climate change, and ensuring workers can organize and bargain collectively. These issues are connected: families cannot thrive if they cannot afford rent, see a doctor, vote safely, breathe clean air, or have a real voice at work. In the U.S. Senate, I would focus on practical policies that improve people’s daily lives while protecting democracy and basic freedoms.
Immigration policy should be rooted in dignity, due process, and public safety, not fear or political scapegoating. Congress should create a real pathway to citizenship, protect Dreamers and long-term residents, expand access to legal counsel, reduce backlogs, and ensure families and workers are treated fairly. I also support strong oversight of federal immigration enforcement, including detention conditions, use-of-force policies, surveillance contracts, and due process violations. Local law enforcement should not be turned into federal immigration agents, and federal agencies should not access personal information or target communities without appropriate judicial oversight. Humane immigration reform makes communities stronger and safer.
Colorado has one of the strongest election systems in the country, with secure voter registration, signature verification, paper ballots, risk-limiting audits, and accessible mail voting. I trust Colorado’s election system and the dedicated election workers who administer it. At the same time, protecting election integrity requires ongoing vigilance: stronger cybersecurity, transparency, public education, election worker protections, and clear rules against intimidation and disinformation. Election integrity and voter access go hand in hand. Eligible voters should be able to participate without unnecessary barriers, and the public should have confidence that every lawful vote is counted accurately.
