Housing - I will support establishing a Social Housing Development Authority that will build new, green, permanently affordable units. I support the Tenant Opportunity to Purchase Act (TOPA), to help protect buildings from predatory speculators. I’ll defend our rent stabilization laws and expand the number of tenants protected by these laws.

Childcare and education - I'll fight for no-cost childcare, fully funded public schools, and free and universal CUNY and SUNY. I support the Universal Child Care Act, relieving one of the largest financial burdens parents and prospective parents face.

Immigrant justice - I'll protect our immigrant neighbors and get Trump’s masked and unaccountable ICE enforcers off our streets by passing the NY For All Act, which bars the state from cooperating with ICE or using our New York tax dollars to carry out federal “immigration enforcement.” I’ll also fight for the Dignity Not Detention Act, which will get New York out of the business of ICE detention.
The catastrophic impacts of the climate crisis and environmental injustice are huge. The most important solutions to these complex issues must address the fundamental underlying problem – our economy’s continued dependence on fossil fuels to power our energy infrastructure. Profit-driven utility companies will never see the economic incentive to switch over to renewable energy. As an Assemblymember, I would advocate for fully implementing New York's landmark Build Public Renewables Act. Investing in state-owned projects will make New York a healthier and more equitable state, while simultaneously strengthening public institutions and democratic governance. Passing BPRA was a major accomplishment, but New York State has yet to follow through. We’ve set up the structure for the New York Power Authority to be a national leader in generating renewable energy. The NY Power Authority should be laser-focused on rapidly scaling up the buildout of affordable solar and wind.
Housing is my first legislative priority because District 56 is 77% tenants and the ever increasing cost of rent has driven 22,000 Black residents out of my neighborhood in the last decade alone. Too many of our current elected officials are accountable to real estate lobbyists and developers, and my opponent in this race has repeatedly worked to block, stall, and water down protections against price gouging and unjust eviction, as well as deed theft and other scams threatening Black homeowners. Additionally, billions of dollars have been funneled into a criminal legal system that has entrenched racial inequities and disproportionately targets Black, brown, and low-income communities. As the budget for our carceral system has ballooned into the billions, essential social services, like education, public housing, and healthcare, have withered away. We must drastically reduce the funding for police and incarceration to fully fund communities, build school's, and end racist policing.
The recent Supreme Court decision is a regression that oppresses communities of color, harming their right to political representation. As your Assembly member I will support state-level policy changes that protect voting rights Black political representation from fascist attacks at the federal level. This could include strengthening the 2022 New York State Voting Rights Act so that it explicitly restores the longstanding legal framework that have been used to draw district maps in a way that corrects for historic patterns of discrimination. NY State could also strengthen the Independent Redistricting Commission by requiring it to publish demographic impact data for any proposed district maps. I would also use my platform to help advocate for federal legislation like Rep. Don Beyer’s Fair Representation Act (FRA) which would protect Black political representation by replacing single-member congressional districts with multi-member districts with proportional representation.
