I will pass the New York Health Act to provide complete, high-quality healthcare for all New Yorkers, regardless of income level, removing barriers to healhcare access that disproportionately impact the working class. Too many New Yorkers have been forced to go without necesary treatment due to high copays or gaps in insurance coverage. I believe that healthcare is a human right, not a privilege for those who can afford to pay.
I will lower utility costs by supporting legislation that expands public oversight and control over the current utility monopoly.
I will protect immigrant communities by passing the New York For All Act, ensuring that state and local resources are never used to aid federal immigration enforcement, and the MELT act to increase accountability of immigration enforcement, including banning face coverings and plainclothes operations by ICE agents.
I will fight to ensure that New York stays a leader in tackling climate change. I disagree with Kathy Hochul's recent budget proposal to roll back a 2019 climate law, cutting goals for greenhouse gas emissions. New York should continue to be a leader nationwide in the fight to address and prevent climate change, not take steps backwards.
I will fight to pass the New York For All Act, which prohibits New York State funds from being used to aid federal immigration enforcement. No New Yorkers should have to live in fear of hate or deportation because of what they look like or where they are from. Everyone deserves to feel safe in their neighborhood, on their commute, and in their own home. That means not only keeping ICE out of our communities, but also ensuring New York takes a zero-tolerance approach to hate and intimidation.
While I support the independent redistricting committee in New York State, and for nonpartisan district lines, I fear this moment in our democracy calls for stronger voices to ensure the balance of power.
I support the initiates of California and Virginia to temporarily adjust their district lines in the Trump era. New York State, if possible, should follow suit.
