I decided to run for office because of the abuses of power we witnessed in our state during COVID. The legislature failed to take action to protect our jobs from unlawful vaccine mandates, to protect small businesses from unlawful forced closure, and to protect churches from infringement on our right to in-person worship. We have witnessed tax increases, gun restrictions, medical freedom assaults, violations of parental rights, and education failures at the hands of so-called "conservatives" in the Alabama House, and I am running to stop that. As a legislative analyst, I evaluate legislation across all 50 states and see where Alabama is leading and where it can do better! I will continue to advocate for our freedoms as your HD96 State Rep.
My top priority is to reduce taxes and government waste, and my second priority is to establish permanent legal protections for parental rights and medical freedom. To reduce taxes, we need to eliminate property tax and state income tax completely. Our state budget has doubled since 2003 and increases yearly! We can reduce government waste and spending and cut taxes drastically for our citizens, so hard-working families can keep more of what they earn. For example, the Alabama Numeracy Act codifies Common Core Math standards and costs $98 Million each year to send math specialists out to help K-5 math teachers teach elementary math! Remove Common Core from our math and reading standards and save Alabama taxpayers 100s of millions per year.
We must standardize Medicaid and Medicare reimbursement rates across the state so that rural health care providers are paid the same rates as those working in more densely populated areas. Additionally, we must end the anti-trust protection laws that allow insurance companies and hospitals to hold monopolies within our state, which drives up the cost of health care for all.
Without clean air, land, and water, we have unhealthy people and unhealthy land, which drives away business, decreases property value, and decreases quality of life for all inhabitants. In District 96, our bay and rivers are vital to our economy. We must protect our bay from mud dumping and industrial pollutants that destroy the natural habitat, harming the fishing and tourism industries. Additionally, we can support sustainable farming practices and prohibit overhead aerosol spraying of any pollutants that can harm plants and soil.
I support closed primaries, continued ID requirements at the ballot, continued restrictions on absentee ballots and early voting, and the elimination of electronic voting machines. Hand counting works and is a safer method of counting votes. Alabama voting laws are strong and must be protected. The removal of Dominion machines would improve election integrity across Alabama.
I support judicial discretion in sentencing outcomes and parole decisions. I also support strong penalties for criminal offenses. To reduce recidivism and prison populations, greater resources should be shifted to support the rehabilitation of non-violent offenders while incarcerated through education, work and skills training, and mental health care.
I am a constitutional conservative who believes in small government and fully protected freedom and liberty. I have a Master's degree in American History, and as a former educator, I understand the importance of teaching our children the greatness of the American experiment, the genius of our founding fathers and documents, and the dangers of communism to our Constitutional Republic. As Reagan warned, freedom is only ever one generation away from extinction, and it must be preserved and protected in every state, at every level of government, or it will not survive. What we witnessed during COVID was an attack on the very freedoms our founding countrymen fought and died for! I will protect our God-given freedoms until my last breath.
