Biographical Information

Why did you decide to run for this office? How have your training, professional experience, and interests prepared you to serve on the Public Service Commission?

What steps will you take as a Public Service Commissioner to ensure that services you regulate are equitable and affordable?

Currently, the ratemaking process for Alabama Power Company and other regulated utilities is not as participatory or transparent as many other utility review processes. Do you think the public should be allowed formal participation in the ratemaking process for public utilities like Alabama Power? How could you as a commissioner take steps to address this?

Effects of a changing climate (e.g. sea-level rise, increasing precipitation and heat) threaten critical infrastructure of public utilities across the state. How do you see the Public Service Commission supporting preparation for climate change to prevent interruptions in critical services?

What’s the most important thing for Alabamians to know about you?

I have served on many boards... for homeless, batter women, AIDS, Homeless, and Boys and Girls Club. I have served in the U.S. Navy. I have served as a state legislator. Been a member of Local 804 Papermill workers union. I decided to continue my service as a Commissioner to help the public with lower utility bills, particularly Alabama Power and to help our small cities with bike trails, sidewalks, bus service, and to start the conversation of rail.service from Mobile to Huntsville.
Any decision the PSC makes will be equal to all residents who uses the private utility. Rate cases would help keep power companies from automatically raising rates. I would work to lower Alabama Power bills by 25%.
Rate cases would allow public input and I support that.
