Democrats Putting Piscataway Working Families First
As a working mom, I understand the challenges facing Piscataway’s families and the opportunities that smart, transparent local leadership can create. I’ve lived in Piscataway for over 20 years and I am committed to building a community that is safe, affordable and responsive to all the people who live here. I’m very concerned about equity for Piscataway’s girls and young women in our recreational youth activities and sports. Although Township recreation programs are paid for with our municipal taxes, not all our participants receive the same resources. When I’m on the Council, I will make sure everyone gets the same opportunities and will root out gender discrimination in our Township’s programs. I was a Fire Commissioner in Fire District #4 for nine years and am currently the Secretary of the North Stelton Volunteer Fire Company. I support the Girl Scouts in the Piscataway Service Unit and received my law degree from Rutgers.
My priorities are to stand up to Donald Trump, stop ICE from using our town’s resources and be a responsive elected official. We need someone who will stop rubber stamping warehouses in our community, keep our neighbors healthy and safe, and ensure we have a transparent and accountable local government. I will work with Council colleagues to refuse to let ICE use our township resources to carry out a mass deportation agenda, including preventing ICE from using warehouses in Piscataway. I will refuse to approve donor and developer giveaways and sweetheart PILOT deals for warehouses and other buildings that drain our school resources and shift Piscataway’s taxes to the rest of us. I am concerned about equity in our recreation programs. I will end gender discrimination in Township programs, so every child has equal access and resources. I will fight to make Piscataway affordable for working families and seniors by ensuring corporations and billionaires pay their fair share of taxes. I will be a local leader for national and state policies, like Medicare for All, that lower costs for everyone. I will be an independent voice for our Ward and not a rubber stamp for the Mayor’s agenda!
As a mother of three, a Girl Scout leader, and a trained mediator, my approach to divisive issues is rooted in finding common ground and focusing on what unites us. We have a shared desire for safe neighborhoods, strong schools, and opportunities for our children. In today’s polarized climate, I believe it’s important to slow down conversations, listen actively, and create space where all voices feel heard without judgment. I will prioritize bringing people together through community forums and small group discussions where residents can speak openly and respectfully. For example, in addressing concerns about budgeting, I would work to ensure transparency by involving residents, businesses and local elected officials to build trust and collaboration. My goal is to move beyond division by focusing on practical solutions that serve families and build trust.
Our Township Council can and should address ICE activities in our community, and do everything in our power to limit the harm caused to our neighbors. I will work with my Council colleagues to require training for our law enforcement and other municipal employees about their rights and responsibilities when interacting with ICE. Piscataway is among the most diverse communities in NJ, and more than a third of our residents are foreign born. Our Township communications should include immigration and Know Your Rights information in multiple languages and provide other support to people at risk of ICE action. I will refuse to let ICE use our township resources and other facilities, like warehouses, to carry out a mass deportation agenda. Instead, I will use the power of my Council office to help our neighbors and keep us safe.
The same political machine has been running our community for more than fifty years. Politics as usual isn’t delivering for working families. Now that we have fair ballots, without the County Line, we have an opportunity to elect independent, progressive leaders who will fight for our future. We need an independent ethics board so we have real ways to stop nepotism, cronyism and corruption in our local government. For decades, Piscataway’s entrenched machine has allowed the Mayor to select the Ethics Board. It’s time to end that loophole. Voters deserve modern, accessible and responsive elected officials who communicate with all residents. My opponent still does not use an official government email address, hiding his communications and limiting ways residents can interact with their representative. We deserve someone who will respond to and fight for us.
