Missoula County Justice of the Peace
A few challenges in serving as Justice of the Peace include increased crime and limited resources for chemical dependency and mental health services. These issues often intersect and require a balanced approach that promotes accountability while recognizing underlying needs.
On the civil side, rising living costs are driving more landlord-tenant disputes and highlighting ongoing housing challenges in our community.
I am committed to fairness, clear communication, and treating all parties with respect. By supporting collaboration and engaging with community partners, I will continue working to improve access to the court process while advocating for greater connection to available resources in our community.
Justice Court serves the community as an accessible, local court often referred to as the “people’s court” that many individuals first encounter through traffic violations and other misdemeanor offenses. In criminal matters, the court handles misdemeanors, conducts initial felony appearances, and promotes accountability while protecting public safety.
In civil matters, the court resolves disputes including landlord-tenant issues and collection cases under $15,000, providing a fair process that many individuals can navigate without an attorney.
Overall, Justice Court upholds the law, protects individual rights, and provides fair, efficient, and respectful service that strengthens public trust and community well-being.
I have filed for reelection because I care deeply about our community and want to continue making a positive impact through fair, accessible, and respectful justice. The rule of law, public safety, and accountability guide my work. Justice Court is the people’s court where I work to connect with people, listen, and ensure all are heard and treated with dignity. I will continue to serve with a focus on victim and public safety, holding individuals accountable, and encouraging positive change. With 33 years in the criminal justice field, I bring extensive experience. I developed Road Court; a successful DUI treatment and accountability court focused on rehabilitation and community safety. I value serving Missoula with integrity & fairness.
