VOTE411 Voter Guide

Nevada State Assembly District 9

The Nevada State Assembly is the lower chamber of the state Legislature and works alongside the Senate to draft, debate, and enact state laws. All 42 Assembly seats are up for election in 2026, and the Assembly plays a central role in shaping policy on schools, healthcare, housing, jobs, public safety, and state budgeting. Because Assembly members represent local districts and serve two-year terms, these races allow voters to hold lawmakers closely accountable and ensure that policy priorities reflect the needs and values of their communities. These elections matter for democratic representation and for how the state resolves the biggest challenges facing Nevadans.

While immigration reform is a federal issue, state leaders must ensure our communities are safe, healthy, and economically strong. Immigrants are the backbone of Nevada’s economy. I support strict labor law enforcement to prevent employers from exploiting undocumented workers, which drives down wages for everyone. As a public health advocate, I know illnesses don't check immigration status; all residents need access to basic healthcare. Additionally, local police must focus on local crime, not federal enforcement, so marginalized communities feel safe reporting crimes. Finally, I support allowing taxpaying immigrants to obtain state IDs and occupational licenses so they can drive insured, start businesses, and boost our economy.
Voters should choose their politicians, not the other way around. Partisan gerrymandering is a threat to democracy, silencing marginalized communities and protecting corporate interests over working families. I strongly support turning the redistricting process over to an independent, non-partisan citizen commission. District boundaries must be drawn with complete transparency, robust public input, and a strict mandate to protect communities of interest, especially communities of color. We must end the practice of cracking and packing districts to manipulate election outcomes. Fair maps are essential to ensure competitive elections, hold elected officials accountable, and guarantee that every single Nevadan's vote counts equally.
As a public health advocate, the top state policy I will improve is our approach to rising healthcare costs. No Nevadan should go bankrupt seeking medical care. To fix this, we must aggressively hold insurance companies accountable for unjustified premium hikes and arbitrary coverage denials. Second, we must urgently increase our state's Medicaid reimbursement rates. Currently, Nevada's low rates are driving doctors out of state and creating severe healthcare deserts. By raising these rates, we will attract and retain quality medical professionals and keep local clinics open. I will accomplish this by prioritizing healthcare in the state budget and ensuring we put patient well-being ahead of corporate insurance profits.

Immigration is mostly handled at the federal level, but Nevada still has a responsibility to make sure people are treated fairly and that families who are working hard and contributing to our communities have opportunities to succeed and stay safe. As someone who was born in the Philippines, who gained my naturalization through adoption, I know immigration is not just a political issue, it is personal for many families here in Nevada. I would support a balanced, state-level approach that prioritizes workforce development, English language proficiency, and educational pathways to empower residents to participate fully in our economy. I will support legislation that strengthens protections against worker exploitation, particularly in vital se
Voters must choose their representatives, not the other way around. I advocate for an independent and transparent redistricting process that eliminates partisan gerrymandering and ensures district boundaries are drawn based on shared community interests and population growth. Nevada’s districts must reflect real neighborhoods, respecting tribal communities and minority representation to maintain public trust. We need clear, enforceable criteria that prioritize fairness and community integrity over political gain.
I would make it easier for working families to participate in the legislative process. Too many Nevadans are juggling multiple jobs, childcare responsibilities, or long commutes and cannot spend hours in Carson City or attend daytime hearings. I would support expanding virtual public testimony, improving public notice requirements, and increasing transparency around bills and amendments so people have more time to review legislation before votes take place. During my work on AB 112, the KinCare bill, I saw how difficult it can be for ordinary working people to make their voices heard in the legislative process. The government works better when more people can participate in it.

I support 287g which helps protect our community against serious crimes being committed.
The Census and Public input have good insights on the boundaries and redistricting. My view is that one party should not be able to hold control each 10yr cycle and be able to suppress the other party.
The high rising cost of tourism. Our state has been a destination for many vacationers throughout the years and are now being turned away with all the resort and travel fees. Even though our sports venues are growing we should focus on what made Las Vegas, Reno a destination for many in the past. My goal would be to join the proper committee to undertake the high cost of enjoying what built our two biggest tourist areas in Nevada.
