VOTE411 Voter Guide

Nevada State Assembly District 31

The Nevada State Assembly is the lower chamber of the state Legislature and works alongside the Senate to draft, debate, and enact state laws. All 42 Assembly seats are up for election in 2026, and the Assembly plays a central role in shaping policy on schools, healthcare, housing, jobs, public safety, and state budgeting. Because Assembly members represent local districts and serve two-year terms, these races allow voters to hold lawmakers closely accountable and ensure that policy priorities reflect the needs and values of their communities. These elections matter for democratic representation and for how the state resolves the biggest challenges facing Nevadans.

I am fully supportive of legal immigration. My grandparents were legal immigrants. That said, I support enforcing existing immigration laws, cooperating with federal authorities, tightening citizenship verification in elections and public systems, and emphasizing legal immigration pathways over undocumented immigration. At the same time, Nevada’s authority over immigration is limited because immigration law is primarily federal. States mostly act in related areas such as law enforcement cooperation, licensing, education access, and benefits eligibility.
Redistricting should reflect real geographic and community ties, the process should avoid excessive partisan manipulation such as we had in 2021 redistricting by the majority party...it should preserve competitive representation where possible, and be created through a more independent and publicly accountable process. I was a primary sponsor of AJR4 in 2023, a proposal to amend the Nevada Constitution to create an independent redistricting commission and I continue to support that position.
While there are many processes that need improvement, one that continues to be important to me is to require a candidate who holds an office to resign that office if they are running for a different office in the middle of their term. I filed AB124 during the 2025 legislative session. It was commonly referred to as the “resign-to-run” bill.

AB124 would have required an elected official to resign from their current office before filing to run for another elected office if their current term would not expire before they would be sworn into the new position. I believe that the people should have the opportunity to vote for the person they want to fill the office being vacated, rather than having the replacement appointed. Intend to reintroduc
