My priorities are simple and focused: ABC · 1–2–3 — Affordability, Border Solutions, and Common Sense Government.
A — Affordability:
Too many families are struggling with the high cost of living. I will focus on:
(1) Lowering fuel and transportation costs;
(2) Reducing the overall financial burden on working families and small businesses;
(3) Expanding access to housing by increasing supply and cutting unnecessary red tape.
B — Border Solutions:
Our region faces real challenges that require practical, cooperative solutions:
(1) Addressing cross-border pollution impacting our water, air, and coastline;
(2) Improving public safety by targeting criminal activity and drug trafficking;
(3) Supporting an immigration system that is fair, orderly, and humane.
C — Common Sense Government:
Government should be accountable, transparent, and focused on results:
(1) Respecting the role of parents in their children’s education and well-being;
(2) Protecting children and strengthening safe communities;
(3) Promoting responsible budgeting and reducing waste so resources are used effectively.
These priorities are centered on practical solutions that bring people together and improve everyday life for the communities of Senate District 18.
I bring more than 40 years of leadership experience serving Southern California as a pastor, educator, nonprofit executive, and community leader. I have worked directly with families, small businesses, law enforcement, and public health officials to address real challenges and deliver practical solutions.
As a senior faith leader, I have provided oversight and mentorship to a broad network of churches and community leaders, working closely with families and neighborhoods across the region. This experience has given me a strong understanding of the everyday concerns facing our communities, including affordability, public safety, and education.
I am the founder of community-based initiatives focused on strengthening families and serving vulnerable populations, including efforts to support individuals experiencing homelessness and to build partnerships across diverse communities.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I partnered with local agencies to help meet urgent needs, including organizing large-scale food distribution efforts serving thousands of families. I have also been involved in legal efforts that reached the highest levels of the judicial system, contributing to significant decisions impacting constitutional rights.
My background includes experience as a school principal, adjunct professor, and nonprofit leader, where I managed budgets, teams, and strategic initiatives.
This combination of hands-on community service, leadership experience, and a proven ability to bring people together to solve problems has prepared me to effectively represent the people of Senate District 18.
Yes—I support efforts to increase the supply of affordable housing for middle- and low-income Californians. The current shortage is one of the main drivers of our high cost of living, and it requires practical, balanced solutions.
However, I believe the focus should be on policies that actually increase housing availability while respecting local communities. This includes streamlining permitting, reducing unnecessary regulations and fees that drive up construction costs, and encouraging the development of a wider range of housing options, including workforce housing.
We must also address infrastructure, water, and transportation needs so that new housing is sustainable and well-integrated into communities. Partnerships between state and local governments, as well as the private sector, are essential to building housing efficiently and responsibly.
At the same time, we should protect existing neighborhoods from unintended consequences by ensuring that housing policies are implemented thoughtfully and with community input.
My goal is to increase housing supply, lower costs, and create opportunities for families to live and work in the communities they serve.
Every child—regardless of income—deserves access to a high-quality education. I support expanding opportunities so families across all communities have real choices when it comes to their children’s education, not just those with financial means.
We should strengthen the fundamentals by ensuring students are proficient in core subjects such as reading, writing, math, science, and history. Strong basics are essential for long-term success in both college and career pathways.
At the same time, we need to expand career and technical education. Many students benefit from hands-on learning and pathways into skilled trades such as carpentry, electrical work, machining, and other in-demand fields. These programs can provide meaningful careers without requiring a traditional four-year degree.
I also support investing in resources that help students succeed, including tutoring, after-school programs, and partnerships with local businesses and community organizations to provide mentorship and real-world experience.
By focusing on strong fundamentals, expanding career pathways, and increasing access to quality options, we can better serve young Californians and prepare them for successful futures.
California’s water challenges require a comprehensive, long-term approach that increases supply, improves storage, and promotes responsible use.
First, we must expand water storage capacity, including reservoirs and groundwater recharge, so we can capture and store more water during wet years for use during droughts. Second, we should invest in modernizing infrastructure to reduce water loss and improve efficiency across the system.
I also support expanding water recycling and desalination where appropriate, especially in coastal regions, to create additional reliable sources of water. At the same time, we should continue encouraging conservation through practical, incentive-based programs that help residents, farmers, and businesses use water more efficiently.
Protecting and maintaining our existing water systems—including addressing environmental and regulatory challenges that delay critical projects—is also essential.
Finally, collaboration between state, regional, and local agencies is key to ensuring water is managed effectively and equitably across California.
By increasing supply, improving infrastructure, and promoting responsible use, we can better meet the water needs of all Californians now and in the future.
