Housing and Gentrification: addressing displacement of residents by corporate interest, protecting affordable units, addressing homelessness and housing security. Supporting Housing Now! Coalition platform and UTLA platform that propose the use of underutilized land owned by LAUSD for the construction of affordable units for teachers and families.
Economic decline: In poor communities like mine, the local economy relies on small businesses, local entrepreneurs, street vendors, and small commercial and industrial corridors. My goal is to attract and support small businesses and promote unionized jobs and training to build a sustainable local workforce.
Public Safety: Prevention programs are an important aspect of public safety policies. As a mental health professional, I will prioritize funding for initiatives that address violence, substance abuse, mental health, education and community engagement, gang prevention and job training. A vast number of case studies have demonstrated that well implemented prevention programs reduce the role of law enforcement creating safer communities. Homeboy Industries demonstrates the truth of Father Gregory's phrase: "Nothing stops a bullet like a job." I will allocate funding for behavioral prevention and restorative justice programs.
I'm a college professor, therapist and social justice activist. For over twenty-five years, I have followed my call for service. I'm running because I have heard the voice of my people, I have observed their struggle to survive and I’m taking action to improve our communities from the bottom up. I’m offering my experience as a community leader and advocate for low-income families in all senses, addressing themes such as education, environmental justice, worker’s rights, health care, affordable housing, fighting privatization and corporations’ greed. My vision is to make significant improvements in housing, protecting the working family’s economics and addressing public safety.
I bring my experience as a college professor, holding a AA degree in community planning and economic development, a BA Negotiation, Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding, and a MS in Marriage and Family Therapy #151624. Mother of three adults, grandmother and close to celebrate 34 years of marriage.
