I have had many jobs in my life and I understand the experience of being a regular worker in this country and the challenges they face. Many congress people come from a background of wealth and they are not able to identify the struggles that the every day worker is facing.
Yes. We need amnesty for our immigrant brothers and sisters as at the top level the immigration debate is about two separate classes of workers. One class they can overwork, underpay, and if they ever feel like their workers are getting out of hand, they can call ICE on them. With amnesty we can get people documented and they can join the fight of workers rights with the rest of us.
We need to repeal Citizens United and pass Ro Khanna and Summer Lee's Abolish Super PACs act which limits contributions to $5000 per year. It is not just the secretive nature of these donations which are the problem but the fact that millionaires and billionaires are allowed to essentially dump an unlimited amount of funds into congressional races. We need to limit the amount of money people can donate so more people are able to run for office.
One thing we could do is to grow less water intensive crops in California. Crops like almonds, alfalfa, and pistachios could cut water consumption by 93%. With this we still need to take care of our family farms by giving them sustainable contracts where they still will be able to live off replacement crops. However, 50% of California's farmland is owned by the top 5% of landowners which are hedge funds, investment firms, and large corporations. They do not need any subsidies, and we can use this opportunity to save water and grow our family farms.
