Jefferson Township Board

The Township Board is a group of elected officials who oversee township operations and provide financial and administrative oversight. The board is responsible for approving the township budget, setting tax rates, and monitoring how funds are spent. They also work with the township trustee to ensure services are delivered effectively and in accordance with local and state laws.

I moved back to Indiana in 2007 to Jefferson Township and have lived in a great, friendly community for almost 19 years. I was caucused to the board in 2016 after the tragic farm accident of then Board Member David Blough. I have been on the board for 10 years and love the community that I proudly serve.
The board helps residents in need meet basic necessities. The board adopts the annual budget, which includes funding for assistance, and approves how those funds are being spent. We oversee poor relief by setting policy, approving budgets and making sure the funds are used effectively.
Like most Townships in Indiana, the biggest issue facing them is the possible removal of township governments. We think it would harm Hoosiers by taking away township assistance and overseeing the poor to provide lifesaving services in fire protection and EMS.
I am familiar with township budgets, functions and procedures and listen to the people in the community. As a board member, I also want to make sure the Fire and the EMS have what they need to get the job done.
We need to be available, answer their questions and be transparent.
We need to look at the improvements needed, look at grants that are available so that we don’t overburden taxpayers, and don’t get in debt.
Notices for the meetings are to be provided several days before the meeting. That way they have an adequate opportunity to attend or voice concerns and listen to their needs.
